The Life and Times of A Lifter...

So does anyone else out there feel like they are the only ones in the world dedicated to bodybuilding or lifting. I for one have grown tired of the way my friends sarcasticly comment on my habits such as eating every 3 hours or my preference to read Flex over something else. But I have hung through it and one day it will pay off. Most people just dont understand what I am doing but this is my hobby and my sport. It requires discapline and training just like everything else. Hopefully they can understand that.

On another note, I have decided to take a week off from training. This was just something I picked up from my days on Max-OT. I just feel that a week off every 8-10 weeks is a good idea. It allows your body to heal and grow. And then during that week I research and formulate a new program for the next upcoming weeks. I just wanted to see if people do the same.

Well thanks gang, just wanted to vent I guess, Ha, see ya later.

Let me tell you how those people that are cracking jokes about you and your training are the laziest and most ignorant people there are.

Yeah you know what they are about the most lazy and ignorant people in the world. But with one flex of my mighty arm, they shut up.

I know what you're going through Lemieux. I have NO friends that work out or do any form of excersize, they just play computer games all day. They are either ridiculously fat (almost obese by US standards) or horribly skinny. I used to be of the latter but I wanted to change too. They always make fun of me and laugh as they eat their Carls Jr. burgers in my face and make fun of the chicken sandwiches I make, but lets just say one day when I have a hot brunette hanging from my left bicep and a blonde on my right, who's gonna have the last laugh

Been somewhat cool around here since a few of my friends are also into it, some aren't but I've never really had anyone say bull**** (that I've heard) about me just because I'm in shape.

The ones that make fun of ya eating often, not drinking, etc etc...are the same ones who usually wish they had a physique, the discipline and the dedication that you possess. It's funny how that all works!

Poking fun and being sarcastic is a hell of a lot easier than adopting a serious program and sticking with it. Work hard, eat right, live long (and well).

Amen to that, I'm kind of glad I'm in a similar boat, I pressured myself into lifting in 9th grade when some kids in my gym class made fun of me becuase I couldn't lift alot of weight, I was real skinny then, i went from obese in 7th grade to skinny by 9th. Anyway I've grown alot as a lifter, I use to only do benchpress to get respect from my friends who made fun of me becuase they could outlift me, and my results were minimal, by 10th grade I was still skinny but not as much so, and I saw most of the football kids zooming by me in lifts and it just frustrated the hell out of me, but this year when I joined the weightlifting team at the end of the year was the final straw. The school workout plan just wasn't working for me, I was ignorant with lifting, I had no idea how much protien I needed or how important a healthy diet was. I knew nothing of volume and ideal reps, i was trying to push out 8 to 10 reps on every set of everylift. Now I've already reaped awesome results and while I still have alot of work to do on my diet, my exercise routine is on track. Some of my friends make fun of me for my careful diet at my age, but those are the kids that have no ambition to improve themselves and are doing poor in school, other kids respect me now for my hardwork that has payed off and want similar results, some really try, others do a half ass job and give up. I guess what im trying to do is just vent like our friend at the top of the thread did, I feel like I've come so far, but I still have so much more to go..When your friends say crap about your weightlifting, just ignore it, your the one with goals.

I wouldn't worry too much about what your mates say, you have the dicipline and mental stength to push through all the crap that people who don't understand and most likely will never understand dish out. And you own this mostly I would say to BBing.

By the way I think having a week off here and there is the best thing that you can do, and by formulating a new plan whether it be diet or workout, fo the coming 8 - 10 weeks gets you thinking and motivated all over again as you want to see what results you can achieve from your new ideas.

All the best.

Cheers

I take heat all the time. My friends just don't get it, and my wife only kinda gets it. I was 240 at 5'.6" about 33.5% BF now I am at 172 19% BF and looking better still have little love handles.

Anyway, they all say you look good -but they just don't understand the work it takes to get to where I want to be or the work it took to get where I am currently at. They don't understand that I will not eat junk foods. They are like lets go out for pizza. I am like ok and get a salad dressing on the side which I don't eat. Water to drink and when I get home I'll eat a chicken breast I've cooked up before hand.

I take heat for eating every three hours. They are like my god you eat all the time why aren't you still fat. They don't want to believe the concept of healthy eating and small meals through out the day.

The can't understand the fact I go to the gym after work and early on the weekends. Like my muscles just magically appeared one day.

They can't understand why I pre-cook meals to take to work for lunch and snacks. After all this all takes some time to do, and it could be spent better you know playing the latest vid. game on the PS2.

I have the last laugh already. Two of them (my friends) are now type II diabetics due to their weight. One of them has a bf of 37%! Here is the kicker.

I was asked how I did it. Was it Atkins, southbeach zone whatever. I said no gimicks -just hard work at the gym and eating healthy.

There reply "Oh, I don't know if I can do that. It seem like a lot of work."
I said well I'll help you and workout with you teach you the ropes but you need to do the work.

"that's cool, maybe in a few weeks" as he eats yet another kitkat bar.

Yeah its tough to be us. We are branded health nuts, fitness freaks and other terms. But in the end we will have the last laugh. I mean I love the way I look now, I love the way I feel and I am not ashamed of my body anymore. While I am not modle, I don't get sick seeing myself in the mirror anymore and that is what really counts!

Ya, I said I was going to get down to a size 7 (I'm 5'8") and this gal says, "you don't need to do anything else or lose anymore bodyfat or you're going to look like a stick"
My response is that is the same thing she said when I said I wanted to get down to my current size 9 jeans.....do I look like a stick to you?
No, I don't because I'm building muscle.
Another friend razzes me sometimes because I am always sucking down water, probably 2-3 gallons a day, it's just become a habit, better than my old habit of sucking down 2-3 pots of coffee, you know?
Then, some people comment on my weight loss, one person suggested I must be sticking my finger down my throat to get it off...
uh......actually, I started lifting weights a YEAR AGO...as orkydoc said, it didn't happen overnight, muscle doesn't just magically appear someday....

But some of those same people have "Batwings" - you know those flappy things hanging down under your tricep muscles.....

I lift because it makes me feel and look good, what else could I ask for ?? No matter what angle you look at it from, envy and jeolousy is what consumes these people.

Plus, if they give me beef about it, I just knock em on the ground. Hehe.

thankfully, my best friend lifts weights too (because i force him to) to try and help keep in shape. He likes doing it, it's just the actual getting up in the morning and going there that he's not too fond of.

As far as people supporting me about stuff and everything though, all my friends are pretty cool about even though none of them really do any kind of exercise. They do give me a lot of **** about my eating habits though, like the fact that if i go 2 hours without eating i feel like im starving to death, and when i say i can't go out to eat fast food or whatever with them cuz i cant eat stuff like that anymore, etc.

i told this one girl im friends with that i'd slipped and ate a piece of cake the night before, and i felt guilty about it and she punched me
