The Hardcore where always trying to rush people off the equipment so they could take over two or three machines at a time. They always looked at the everyone as inferior(Not all there were a few taht gave pointers and helped out) It always pissed me off. Now, your thinking he's not hardcore he never makes gains. Well, if it wasn't for my lifting i would have probibly been in a wheel chair today. The strength I gained from whatever lifting I was doing strengthened my back to stop me from having a a serious spinal injury in a car accident. Instead it just twisted my spine a little. I would say I was a little more than a casual lifter but still didn't garner much respect from the hardcore lifters. I am a mesomorph so I gain rather quickly but lose just as quickly.

The casual lifter, I'd say most of the time is there becasue it's trendy at the time or wants to get away from something for a while(slackers). They Usually are in the way of everyone or taking up space that you need for dead lifts or their BSing on the squat rack. Generally just a waste of space in the gym.

The begginer lifter, tends to be someone who has no idea what they are doing, but in their head they have some sort of an idea of what they should do. They brought a journel. They have a list of workouts they want to do but haven't the clue where to start. These are the poeple that get hurt the most by Casual lifters and Hardcore people. Their list fall to the way side because the casual lifters are on the equipment they want to use and the hardcore people are hurrying them off the equipment they are using. So then they get frustrated and don't go back because of it or become casual lifters.

Now there are some twist and turns inbetween but basicly thats how it has been and that's how it's always going to be.
Id say theres another group in there in between Hardcore and Casual....which id say I belong to. Its the group thats in the gym the same time every week, moving up in weight 2.5 or 5 pounds on each side, or a few reps, each workout, and trains "hardcore", who outside of the gym eats their needed meals and supplements throughout the day, but lives a normal life and doesnt walk around trying to chew on 10 pounds plates or juggle small cars all day because theyre so "hardcore".

I guess you guys still miss the point. My whole point was going to a gym with no goals in mind will get you nowhere. I'm not going to argue anymore becasue it's starting to go in a circle.

Luke, good points.
No one ever said that going to the gym with no goals was a great thing. Yeah, you're not going to go very far. But the point I'm making is that that person has just as much right to be there as you do.

If you assosiate "hardcore" with having goals, then I agree, I know plenty of 70 and 60 year olds that have goals at the gym. But I dont know any that give a damn about there big three or care if they're squating close to their one rep max. If that's all that "hardcore" is then it seems pretty watered down. Lets not toss words around; they tend to loose their meaning.

Oh, and just to make a final point. Straps are pretty useless, and unless you're a body builder you should be using them.

Dude, nobody said they didnt' have a right to be there. You pay the gym, you have the right to be there.

And yeah, the words do need to stop being thrown around. I just am kinda surprised people are defending those that never grow or change at the gym lol.

And, hope you meant that unless your a body builder, you "SHOULDNT" be using them.

And yes, that is a great thing about training...which is why my original post that suggested the use of straps was merely an option. A logical way to look at training back. I didnt say my word was law and that anyone who doesnt use straps is a fool.

So by "leaving the computer and not returning for a while" you basically pulled a "im taking my ball and im going home" because someone offered a logical opinion different than yours? Hmm....

no, it gets old, and frustrating singing the same old story about the connection of grip and muscle development, witch most are clueless about, and most won't believe, it's one those things, unless you exprieance it, you'll never know. (it's more than opinion, trust me)
It didn't mean "I'm taking my ball home....", but it was a mistake on my part to post it.

Ill take your word for it, and ill tell all the 250-300+ pound guys in my gym (its a powerlifting gym with deadlift platforms and forza benches and all that good stuff) the next time theyre deadlifting 600, 700+ pounds from the ground with straps that theyre doing it all wrong, that theyre idiots who have no idea what theyre doing, and firehawk and luke w. are the most badass dudes around and if anybody does something differently than them theyre just wasting their time and should give it up and go play chess because its obvious that nobody gets anywhere using straps :

thanks for the info guys

I'd be stunned if the powerlifters were deadlifitng with straps. Stop making crap up.

I belong to a powerlifting gym and straps are rarely used, and never used on deadlifting. Why? Because you can't use them in a meet. If you can't hold it, you can't lift it...that's how it is at powerlifting gyms.

MMMMM mmmmmm Strapless.

Hey I'm just sitting back laughing at this.
I have a Dead Lift of 670. I don't use straps for that.

Straps are meerly a tool and should be used (if used at all) as a tool.
The same as chains or bands. Do i lift with chains and bands all the time? No. Have I used straps? Yes. The % of the times I used straps is under 5%. I found out (As it was said before) if you can't grip it you can't lift it.

I can use a car to go 60mph that don't mean I can run 60mph.
They are tools.

Have a different opinion, but quit making crap up.

I TRAIN at a strength gym and there's never straps used for deadlifting dude. So yes, I think you're making it up jsut to keep the argument going.

If you can't use them at the meet, then they don't train with them in the gym, as far as the big 3 go. It's not hard to comprehend. There can't be any weak links.

Yeha, straps are used as a tool. But using straps on deadlifts is not using them as a tool. lol

dude im not making anything up. i hardly ever train at the same time as any of these guys, but i have seen them use straps before.

I recently bought some titan wrist wraps (not straps, wraps, for doing dips) and i just MENTIONED straps, and one of the co-owners of the gym (who is a strongman...well strongwoman actually, as well as a competing pl'er) said she sometimes uses straps for heavy pulldowns and machine rows, and ive SEEN her, as well as the guys i mentioned earlier using straps for deadlifts...maybe not all of them, but at least a couple. So dont call me a liar.

If youve got a strong grip then using straps every once in a while to hit your back isnt going to make your grip a "weak link"
