Top Gym Pet Peeves

Okay...so I tried a new gym today and it rekindled my gym pet peeves. So I will list them down. I apologize in advance if they offend you, but perhaps this may be a learning tool for all of us. If you have anything you would like to add, feel free:

1.) Guy who walks around gym looking for someone to talk to.
This guy wants to make eye contact with you, so he can talk your ears off about nothing you care about! He does nothing but ruin your flow...cool you down...and wastes your time. Ignore him!

2.) The guys that drop the dumbbells after benching!
Okay...you brought them up quietly--now put them down quietly! We don't need to look at you after your measley 90 lb. DB press!

3.) The lady who talks on her cell phone while on a machine.
You've seen her...can be a man or woman that sits at the lat pull while you are waiting for it.

4.) The person that stinks before they even start to workout!
I don't care if your religion forbids you to wipe your ass or not bathe for a week...it is down-right disgusting and inconsiderate to smell and get on a treadmill next to someone trying to have a good workout!

5.) The guy who carries the huge duffle bag from station to station with 2 things inside of it!
Ughhh...I hate this!!! All he has in there is his wraps, gloves, and magazine!!

6.) The guy that carries his water gallon.
Unless you are working out in Venice Beach , CA or you have a Pro Card, you do not need to carry a gallon jug with you everywhere. Leave it to the pro bodybuilders. Bottles are suffice!

7.) The trainer that makes his client do balance work, when the trainers can't even perform it!

I hate trainers that make their clients do single leg work, and they don't even perform it themselves or can't. It is more motivating when your trainer can do what you ask of them!!

8.) The person who complains about people not wiping down the equipment.
Guess what? The equipment can be wiped down after a person uses it...or BEFORE!! Stop complaining and clean it yourself!

9.) The person who looks like they have no clue where to go next.
Ughhh....they stand there bewildered...lost...arms folded...looking aimlessly at pictures on machines. Trainer!!!

10.) Lastly...the all-time...we all know him. The guy that curls in the squat rack!

haha, that's pretty funny. numbers 1-3 really annoy me too. the gallon water thing dosen't get under my skin, but it is amusing.

i get annoyed when people get on the treadmill during peak hours and walk at like 1.5 or 2.0 for 30 minutes. pick up the pace or get off!

Hahaha awesome thread. I agree with all of these and I hate all of these people the same. I just hate it when people at the gym spend more time talking to each other than lifting! jeebus! shut up and lift already!

I can't stand the guys who stare at ya with the look that says: "WTF you doing in freeweight territory?"

I just joined a new gym for the summer months today and got that look while I was checking out what they had for equipment.

11. That guy with 80% of his body weight distributed into his legs
You know who you are. I hate you. How much juice did you inject into your thick skull to get that big? Why can't you lift any heavier than me? You are the person that defines the term meathead. You know, when you're curling 65 lbs for 6 reps I think, "hey, maybe its just a recovery day for him" But then over the next few weeks I see you doing the same, low intensity low weight crap! But your arms and chest are huge! You show no effort whatsoever, but somehow you have those giant 'guns' and enourmous chest. Let's not forget about your sorry excuse for legs though. You look like the Kool-Aid guy... a giant upper torso walking around on two sticks. You are fooling no one. Only a pansy would be scared of you. Anyone with the least amount of fight training or experience can wreck your huge, slow moving excuse for a person. Please stop hogging the squat rack and go do something that will give you enough speed to defend yourself in a fight.

12. That guy who's writing notes about the stuff that bugs him. Some of those I understand, but man... is it a motivator to find flaws in people or does it make you feel better about yourself? Seriously, does a guy carrying a gallon jug of water really effect you in the least? According to your signature, you should be the perfect example and one who could communicate effectively to these individuals on what you feel is 'proper gym etiquette', and yes... YOU do need to wipe your sweat off the equipment when you are done.

I agrree...however, I carry a gallon because on a standard workout, as long as Im giving 110% like im supposed to, and overloading, I end up drinking most of the gallon...depending of course. but I drink alot and sweat alot so...I have too, not gonna waste my time filling up my water bottle every 5 minutes.

Like I said, I knew I would offend some people and I apologized in advance. I do not view these as flaws in others but rather pet peeves of mine. Pet peeves being a knack for something I HAVE TO DEAL WITH...so I guess the flaw would be mine.

Lucky13MN: I am a true professional with 13 years experience and I have been inside and out of gyms since 1992. I think its natural to sit back while your on the treamill and notice the little things that have changed in gyms over the years. Like I said, don't be offended if some of these things are you...

it is supposed to be a fun post, that's all!

I've never lifted weights in a commercial gym, but I think it's a funny thread none-the-less!

I've seen a couple males at two different times on the ab machine talking on cell phones. It was so aggervating because they could see people were waiting. The first guy was talking on his cell for so long we had to get someone that worked there to tell him to get off!

I would have to disagree with the water thing, on Thursdays when i train legs and chest I do actually consume 3-4litres of water with 500mills of it being energy drink or so. I wouldn't find it anything odd if anything its the smartest way to go knowing that you have water there and wont dehydrate or have to go and 'get' some more water especially after intense sets. I bring 1 2 litre bottle and normally refill it and drink half or all of it again. Just looked up and a gallon is 3.7litres which aint that bad, becuase us that train obviously need a lot more water than what is recommended for the average person.

Other than that most of the other statements i find true, i do chat to people in the gym if they look like they are going to speak to me, but hey i rest 4-5minutes between sets, so i'm not really affected pace wise, or rest wise or anything, if i was resting 60-120seconds then yeah i'd be in trouble if someone was to chat to me.

I don't like the guy who constantly warned me about using my chalk before some deadlifts... Listen dumbass, I know it's not allowed, that's why I'm doing this covertly... now go away before you attract attention.

I mostly ignore other people at the gym anyways.
