Trouble Sleeping - I Think Too Much!

Hey Gang:

This may seem like an odd question, but I'll fire it off anyway.

I work-out early in the morning as this works best for my schedule. I'm up at 5:30am.

I have trouble falling asleep at night because I think too much about my upcoming workouts in the morning. I seem to have the most trouble falling asleep when I think about deadlifts! The thought of getting that weight off the floor on the initial lift gives me shots of adreniline! I have always been able to lift it off the floor, but I still seem hung up about it.

Am I a little strange or does anyone else think like this?

Thank you, Glenn

I, too, get pumped up for an upcoming workout. Especially if I'm gonna be maxing. However, i don't loose sleep over it.
Sleep is essential and very important for lifting. So, do what you must to get that sleep. And I'm sure your lifts will go that much better anyway.
But I understand the excitement. Theres something about putting up extremely heavy loads that just sets you off! :

It's not just thinking about workouts, I think about everything when I get in bed, I have to consiously stop myself from focussing on anything for too long. They do have a new drug called Lunesta to calm the mind, also booze helps you go to sleep.

Dude - the best thing is white noise. Turn on a fan - or buy a white noise machine. It really works. Dead silence if just killer is you have something on your mind. You kind of jsut focus on the noise, its pretty relaxing. I find booze gets you to sleep, but you still wake up tired. Maybe 1 drink is a different story.

Thank you for the suggestions. Not sure if I would want to rely on pills, but I'll try the white noise and maybe the occasional drink!

No need for drugs or alcohol. Have lots of sex with your woman each night, then you'll be too tired to think.

Haha, All these pills should be done away with, Insomnia is caused by lack of sex...genius!! Doctors should start writing presciptions immediately.

You could just turn on a radio and tune it to static, saves money on a white noise machine.

I have the same problem. I meditate when I'm trying to fall asleep. You could meditate with the image of your "ideal" or you goal in mind, so you are thinking about lifting, but using it to help you get to sleep.

I LOL when I read this post becuse I have the same problem, and I thought i was all alone! instead of thinking about deads, i'm thinking about cleans. lol. i go over the form in my head, and think about how much fun they are, then i am up and all excited. if i'm not thinking about cleans, i'm thinking of new workouts.

i've found that watching some mindless tv in bed helps...friends or seinfeld are my favorites. then i relax and fall right asleep.

I have this same problem almost on a nightly basis, I don't think about anything specific, I just think. Another problem I have is I pee excessively throughout the night so I wake up 3 or 4 times and sometimes it takes me a half an hour to go back to sleep, so really I only get 6-7 hours, 8 if I'm really lucky. I actually did a post on this. It could be add it could be swolen prostate I don't know but all I know is if I got a lot more sleep I'd be a happy camper.

If you are looking for something natural that may help you get some sleep, may help your sleep boost your GH levels, may help your sleep be more effective, consider GABA. It doesn't cross the blood brain barrier very well so the effective dosage may be even as high as 3g, but it has been shown to help with sleep. It's as effective for many people as tricyclic drugs. It's also an effective adjunct to narcotics for people who live with chronic pain.

And, it's just an amino acid.

If all else fails, get some red devil lye, some paint stripper...never mind, just kidding on that one.

If it doesn't seem too hokey to you, there is also things like meditation or what the doctors call it now - biofeedback...not the oooooohhhhhmmmm, oooooohhhhhmmmmm hippie crap that you have to smoke a bunch of weed to do, just some real, quiet, alone time to simply rest your brain, clear your mind, get your focus under control so that your mind doesn't wander all night keeping you awake.

Same here as well! I always think about upcoming workouts! Actually I think about the workout I just did as well. Drives me crazy. The thing that helps me most is doing something very relaxing before bed. Meditating is awesome.

Hey Gang:

OK, I think I've got it now...

I'm going to have a few drinks, pop some pills while listening to white noise on the radio. Then I'll watch some TV, have sex ( does it have to be with my wife?) and meditate myself to sleep.

Sounds simple enough!

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

LOL - does it have to be with your wife.. ha..

Basically I have the same problem, I just meditate on my day and I just get thinking sometimes my head hurts I think too much. I've found listenint to my mp3 player helps. I listen to calming music, not loud. I also listen to audio books on my mp3 player, I don't think i've ever gotten through one because they bore me out. If you do that, don't listen to any thrillers lol.. listen to some self-confidence audio book or something.. that will put you to bed.
