Ughh....

Just wanted to vent. I was all psyched and ready for my workout today. I had a big breakfast, was about to eat my big pre-workout meal, and was all ready to attack another HIT workout. Unfortunately, I had to deal with a personal phone call that has completely taken my head out of the game. I don't even have an appetite so I can't even choke down my meal. There's no point in half-assing the workout, which I am sure to do if I go forward with it. Plus, there's the undeniable internal guilt of missing a weight training workout for cardio. It's driving me crazy.

Sorry to complain, just needed to whine for a bit. Anyone else have to deal with similar stuff?

Sometimes just the pump from even a half-assed workout can pull you out of a funk. I say, "Go hit the gym and do a modified, 'whatever you feel like' workout." You'll be glad that you did -- it's a great way to vent.

I agree. The gym is a great stress reliever. Whenever Im in there, it clears my head. I dont have to worry about anything but the weights. And , you wont feel as guilty

Tis true---all of that....you really should go, it will help take your mind off of things a great deal. You are definitely "hard core", so you know when you are there, you will put all of your focus into the gym and you will be fine.

2 true stories. A few years ago when my then girlfriend called me and told me out of the blue that she did not want to see or even speak to me anymore, instead of wallowing in self pity, I put my sneakers on, got in the car and went to the gym. When I was there, it was like I was in my glory, it's like your own little sanctuary if you will, and I had a great workout. Now of course, afterwards, was a different story, but while I was there, it was like any other day.

The other story is a little more somber, but it also proves that the gym is a great mental break from reality. On 9/11, I happened to be working in manhattan back then, and I was one of the thousands of us that had to walk over one of the bridges to get back to long island and try to find a way home. Well, after 3 hours, I finally got home in the most mesmerised, miserable, shocked, unbelievable mood I had ever been in, and after about a half hour of watching TV, I got really pissed off at the whole things, and took my aggression out at the gym. It was great, gym wise anyway, felt like superman that day I was so mad, sad, upset, at the whole day.

But my point is, for some reason, us who regularly work out can really find the gym as a piece of mind type place, where for that hour you are working out, nothing in the world can bother you, and I truly believe that to be true. Some people turn to alcohol, we can turn to the gym, and it is kind of the same feeling....

Been there and done that.

There is always later, as in later in the day or later as in tomorrow. You are a young man and the number of butt kicking training days in your remaining lifetime is a huge number. How you respond to this matter is a wonderful opportunity to grow as a person. And that's great training!

I agree with the other posters Mav - you need something to take your mind off of your bad news. Do a body-weight circuit or something where you don't have to think - just move from one thing to the next and try to keep your mind clear.

At the end you'll have a clearer mind and a tired body, which is a good first step toward dealing with your stressor.

Well, I ended up running today, which I haven't done in over 2 weeks because of a pain in my leg. The pain was much more subdued today, barely present, but still there. Like you guys said, it let me zone out. I was too focused on breathing, the cramp in my side, the slight pain in my leg, the speed of the treadmill, my footing, etc... to worry about anything else. 30 minutes of pure relief, mentally anyway.

Man Maverick you need to chill. I understand your frustration but this is the second article I read from you that said you just wanted to vent. I understand how you can loose your focus but somedays its just start it and see where it goes. I mean you may find out you have the best workout you ever had by forcing a workout.

P.S. When we gonna get that 6 minute mile?

The other one was an older one crazy. I just brought it back cause I recently found some info regarding the main point of the thread. Soon as my leg heals up, I'm gonna start going full orce again with my running. Hopefully I can get back to hard intervals starting next week, maybe even this weekend depending how my leg feels in the next 48 hours.

Don't worry about it rookie, its just stupid personal ****, nothing life changing.

Sure, I always just make sure it interferes with my cardio and not my weights.

If something happens before lifting time, I take it out on the weights...sometimes have a most excellent workout, sometimes get injured.

Whatever it is man, I hope you get it worked out quickly and it doesn't interfere with too much.

Remember the "it happens" line in Forrest Gump? Well, it does.

May I borrow the venting thread? Hope so because I'm gonna.

I'm tired of eating so darn much. I've finally got my calories consistantly above 3000 recently. I'm looking forward to my cut - scheduled for the end of March so I can not eat quite as much. Then today I realized I've been peeing like a russian racehorse for the last few days. I thought, "am I accidentally in ketosis?" I didn't think it was likely because of all the carbs I'm eating. Even my veggies I add to my chicken and rice are the higher carb kind. I'm mixing in corn, ocra, potatoes, celery, green beans, lima beans, and carrots - a whole cup of this mixed together (bought frozen in a bag) - 14g carbs in 3/4 cup. My weight is up to 195lbs as of yesterday. But tonight, I took off my shirt and my wife said, "your abs are shaping up again".

Dammit - that means the caloric excess I'm going for isn't there, I'm burning fat for fuel, producing ketones, and peeing them off (tested with a ketostrip tonight). That means I've got to eat even more. I'm choking down 2 pieces of chicken, 1/2 cup of brown rice, and 1 cup of those veggies right now as I type this. Then right off to bed so it can digest easily while I sleep. The 4am get up and feed is getting old too.

OK vent over.

Anybody else hate to eat this much?

meal 3- 4 skinless bonless chicken tenders and brown rice

meal 4- 4 skinless boneless chicken tenders and brown rice

meal 5- varies from 4 skinless bonless chicken tenders and brown rice...or if i run outta chicken then a can of tuna and brown rice...or a turkey sandwhich

meal 6- whey shake with oatmeal in it(not very good, tastes awful i dont blend it either) 5 creatine ester pills and 3 no2 pills

meal 7- aminoade...amino acid gatorade drink i drink while lifting

meal 8- whey shake

meal 9- 4 chicken tenders and brown rice

meal 10- 4-5egg whites and 1 egg yolk and 2 slices of whole wheat toast

before bed i have another whey shake in fat free milk and 3 egg whites

and i have another whey shake in milk if i wake up in the middle of the night...or i have a natural pb sandwhich on two slices of light whole wheat bread and low carb jelly ( i know its bad but i just cant imagine eating more chicken or cooking when i wake up at 4 am.)

(the original thread question) Yes I deal with that kind of stuff often. It's stuff not to be shared with anyone but important to me none the less.

Sometimes forcing the workout helps and other times insisting that I go just adds to the stress. Do what you have to do!
