Question

Weight Lifting Beginner

A Personal Trainer is too expense.

Does anyone have a workout schedule for someone starting weight lifting for the first time? Including the technique, how often, how much, how long etc.. Thanks

The link above is to the plan that I use and have had very good results since starting it. Just OK results before starting it. It allows me to spend less time working out and get more out of my effort. Many others here use this plan too. There are many other plans that work well for others. This is just what is working for me.

As far as a personal trainer - you don't need one - just ask questions here - someone will be happy to help you. Take the information that you get which is useful to you and apply it.

I have found that when I ask a question, I generally get many different types of answers - some work for me, some don't. But hey, that's what you get with free help. Most of it is good help though.

there are some things we really cant help you with. we can tell you what correct squat form is all day long but you should try and find someone (either a friend or guy at the gym) who knows what hes doing to critique your form. i just worked out with a guy who had never squated before and he needed a lot of critiquing that needs more hands on advice.

one thing for a beginner that is more important than i have seen posted here is stretching. during the first few weeks of lifting its a good idea to stretch for a few minutes (20-30) a day to get your body flexible enough to perform exercises (squat and DL being, in my opinion, 2 of the most flexibly demanding exercises).

Good points beef. Again - for that, find someone in the gym who knows what they are doing - many will be willing to help out. Again, no need to hire a trainer.

There are some good videos here that show pretty good form on most exercises too in the beginners section. I've been serious for a year and a half now and I still refer to the videos and then get someone to watch me to make sure that's how I'm doing it.
