Hey Darkloard, you're not allowed to post any more questions in this thread until you fancy yourself some neckwork and report back!

You don't need any "tools" to start off with. Go to where ever you'd normally do situps and lay on your back with with you knees up in the air that same way you'd normally do a crunch. Now just lift you but up off the ground so your thighs and torse make a straight line. At this point you're supported and you shoulders and feet, what you want to do is push your head down and roll back so that you're supported on your feet and top/back corner of your head. Think of it was kinda like a crunch for your neck.

I enjoy neck work very much, I only do it like once a month, ususally teethlifting, I feel more secure with a strong neck, but yeah just heavy lifting in general does target the neck, and I've had a pretty sore neck from grip training before, but you can always tell those guys who do direct neck work.

I agree that Basedow looks horrible, and Kurt Angles neck is way to big for his body, I'd think a drug-free guy wouldn't have this problem.

I did some wrestler bridges lastnight while pulling over weights (don't need no machines here, just a weight) I only used a 40lb dumbell to pullover and that was tough enough, I'd hold it over top of me for a few seconds, this I could also feel in my chest/ribcage.

speaking of this, at my grip comp. I met a guy named Johnathon, the first thing I thought when I met him was......"that guy has a serious neck, I wonder what he does?" well later on after the comp. this guy gets into a wrestlers bridge and pulls over a 120+pound 12"thick steel log and he did it several times, I don't know if any of you can appreiciate that, but try it with an empty bar sometime, or 5lb dunmbells.

Stuff like the teeth pulls Luke does, or the band stuff you mentioned, that is much more realistic and I can see the benefits of it for your neck...but that is not what the original poster had in mind. My neck has kept up with my heavy training so far, but then again I'm not at the level you are Dan. I'm sure you have years of experience on me.
Couple guys at my gym have the head harness and they have a band attached to it, do it every day after bench and squat. Other than that I haven't seen anyone else do it.

I stand corrected. I've personally never seen or heard of anyone working out their necks. I've always been under the assumption that the neck is worked enough indirectly (and such has been my experience as well).

greg, think about this.........when you deadlift, you pull your head up when lifting, when the head goes up....the weight goes up with it, I'm wondering if the neck is one of the "weak links" in ones training.

I honestly started seeing much stronger results in my training after specialized neck work, not just for strength feats, "ironmind" sells a neck harness.....I have one, and it can be hooked up to a barbell for the neck lift {that would be a deadlift without gripping with the hands}

just think about it?

it don't matter if the PL'ers or other "top dogs" are doing it or not, greg or firehawk, and Darklord.
