Why do you wear what you wear to the gym?

Besides obvious reasons..

At my gym, I see people wearing all sorts of outfits. Real fit and ripped guys wearing baggy t-shirts, Some people wearing stuff that they really shouldn’t be wearing..

As I become more fit, and each month I become a little more happy with the way that I look, I find myself looking at myself in the mirror while I’m working out. Not because I might be mistaken for Adonis, (FAR from it..) but because as I lift weights, I can see my progress, and can visualize where I want to be. This seems to drive my workouts for that little extra (I’m not talking about standing in front of a mirror posing..)

Does anyone else find themselves doing the same thing?

yup - when it's leg day or cardio, i wear whatever i grab first that doesn't stink too badly, but if it's arms and shoulders, chest, or back, i tend to reach for something sleeveless.

I wear a t-shirt and my bathing suit (I often swim right after.) Even before I started swimming I wore a bathing suit because I had one and it works as a pair of shorts.

I'll usually be in my tkd dobok pants from the night before (I have two on a constant wear/wash rotation) with any of my dedicated 'can't wear this anywhere but the gym' shirts.

interesting aside, Koreans wear normal day attire in the gym, you'll see guys in dress pants and/or jeans crankin out the reps. Mostly they have a different shirt to change into afterwards, there was a guy didn't even take off his suit jacket the other day, was certainly different.

Thinking of getting some sleeveless shirts to wear and as summer comes I may switch to shorts (but that is extra washing )

Another interesting aside: our gym over here is a strictly no shoes affair, everyone is in bare feet or socks ... OH&S is yet to hit this place in a big way

I work out at home and at the station's gym. At home I wear what ever (Shorts & tank or tee). At the station I wear an FD shirt and shorts.

old cotton shorts, and sleeveless T shirts, Mesh shorts or fancy workout shirts seem to snag on stuff. I like the freedom of sleeveless. I see people working out in pants but I get too hot. I wear old running shoes but am looking to get a pair of wrestling shoes for leg day

I wear whichever tank top is clean that day and I rotate between a pair of pull away warmups and a regular pair of exercise pants. I will rarely, if ever, wear shorts. I am a pasty, butt white colour that is not only embarrassing to me, it's also a hazard if anyone happens to look directly at them in the sun.

mesh shorts and medium t-shirts, sometimes sleeveless. I'm soooo guilty of showing off. Hell, 6 months of training and diet, I've earned it!

Shorts, t-shirt or sleeveless tee, and usually bare feet.

Exercise pants and an old t-shirt of some sort.... The same kind of stuff I wear when I just lounge around the house....

Why? Probably cus I'm too lazy, broke and careless to be in style at the gym....

I wore my old boxing stuff up until 3 monthes ago. Shorty shorts and tank tops.
After getting sick of the sub-urban housewives monitoring my ab routine (leg lifts, etc). I decided to invest in some Adidas stuff. Other than that its usually sleeve-less tee's or basketball shorts.

I really don't mind the ladies monitoring my routine-and some do. After all, it's only fair since I monitor their workouts on the adductor & abductor machines and the butt-blaster....(really, I'm just watching to see if they are using correct form in the movement....honest....it has nothing to do with those short baggy-legged gym shorts and thin, low-cut tank tops they wear....really....)
