Workedout shoulders but lats are sore.


Yesterday I worked out my shoulders and legs but the two muscles that are sore are my traps and lats. Today I was going to work out my bis and back but with my lats being sore I'm not sure if I should give them anther day to recover? I should also say that I took Sat and Sun off.

here is what I did yesterday,

Barbell upright row
Dumbbell Front Raise
Dumbbell Lateral Raise

Seated Leg Press
Seated Leg Curl
Standing Calf Raise

you were likely going too heavy on your shoulder workout. when you go too heavy, you tend to arch your back severely and shrug hard to allow your traps and lats to shoulder some of the weight.

pardon the term.

when you use free weights, dont think about "getting the weight up". that is a particular demand and your body will activate every muscle going in order to complete the instruction.

think instead of "straightening the leg", "bending the arm", "standing up", "raising the elbows", etc. this will activate ONLY the required muscle fibres. you will, however, likely have to drop the weight.

Whenever my chest is severely sore after a chest workout, my lats are sore as well, and vice versa. I don't understand this phenomenon, but I don't see it as a problem. And yes, you should rest the muscle until the soreness is gone.

Not necessarily. If they are EXTREMELY sore, then yeah, keep resting. If it's just a little sore, doing more exercise will actually help the soreness go away.

it's normal for lats to be sore after a chest workout - they're an auxiliary group. i don't, however, think lats and traps should be sore after shoulders.
