8-week progress report
Well, two months ago I took all my measurements and then started lifting. It took me a bit to get my routine down, and quite a bit longer to get some kind of a handle on how much I needed to be eating and by how much I needed to up my protiein consumption.
At the end of eight weeks, I've lost an inch from my waist and gained an inch on my upper arms. I put half an inch on my chest and calves, two inches on my hips; all other measurements remained the same. I have gained five pounds.
My three major lifts at the start:
Squat: 22 lbs
Deadlift: 25 lbs
Bench Press: 22 lbs
My three major lifts now:
Squat: 45 lbs
Deadlift: 50 lbs
Bench Press: 40 lbs
The Man of the House has gained a pound and a half and made no noticeable changes to his measurements.
His three major lifts before:
Squat: 40 lbs
Dead: 40 lbs
BP: 75 lbs
His three now:
Squat: 70 lbs
Dead: 100 lbs
BP: 80 lbs
That ought to teach him to refer to my protein shakes as "blender spooge". HAH.
I'm going to put some more effort into making sure we eat well, and also start buying protein in bulk. Does anyone have any guesses on why TMOTH's BP is lagging so far behind his other lifts? I know he trains them intensely, and only once a week, generally at the beginning of the workout. He's tried to increase them by more, but he wound up bursting some capillaries in his chest in the effort.

No, he's actually relatively slim. Don't have bodyfat% 'cause I still don't have calipers, but now I can tell you he wears a 32" waist.
Shouted down the stairs as I wandered down in search of breakfast this morning:
"IF YOU'RE MAKING JIZZ, GET SOME FOR ME TOO!"

Shoulders and arms are mainly on Monday. Bench press, military press, and dips. There's pullovers, rows, and curls on Wednesday, then legs on Friday. Weekends are off.

So all triceps are on Monday. Good, good.
How long is that workout?
Sets?
Reps?
"Blender spooge" after all your workouts? :$

The workout is about half an hour. Sets are two for ten reps, except squats and deadlifts which are single 20-rep sets. The general rule of thumb that we follow on poundages is that as soon as we CAN finish two sets of ten reps each, we up the weight. (I have 1.25 pound fractional plates, which makes this easier.)
I started drinking the shakes after every workout about a month ago. He joined me about two weeks ago when I finally found a flavor that didn't cause him to make a face. (Chocolate with peanut butter spooned in..) He hasn't been all that good about the "immediately after" part, since he usually does his first and then waits for me to make the shakes after mine.

More HEAVY
2 mo's is plenty of time at 10 reps. Your tendons etc can handle more weight.
Try sets of 8. TMOTH might do well with a few sets of 6.
20 squats would kill me. You people are nuts. ;-)

Fudo: we live at 7200 feet. They DO kill us, believe me. Generally can't get up again for about five minutes.
I'll take your advice on the heavy.

20-rep squats are amazing! I loved them when I could do them. It's a damn shame I am a handicapper now
