Abs eveyday?

Sorry if this topic has been around already, I tried serching, but it did not work, so please bare with me....

I have heard two opinions about this.

Some people say we can work on ab muscles everyday because they are different from other muscles.

Some say Ab muscles are not different from other muscles and should be treated like other muscles. And you should rest between ab workout days.

So what is the truth?

Q1 Can we work on our ab muscles everyday?

Q2 Are they really different from other muscles?

Q3 If so, in what way???

Thank you everyone... YOu guys are great!

sorry i can't answer your questions but heres what i prefer. I prefer to work out abs only once a week lika all other muscles. The next day my abs and oliques hurt like a mother as a matter of fact mine hurt right now especially when a cough or sneeze.

I would say ab muscles are no different than any other muscle....if you work them hard, then you need to give them sufficient recovery time. I know, when I have worked mine in the past, they can get sore and i wouldn't dream of working them the next day or any other day until they are fully recovered...just like any other muscle they can become over-trained. I would say that anyone directly working their abs everyday is not working them the way they should or could be (as in not hard enough!).

Work them hard with 100% intensity and then let them rest....keep a log on how long it takes for yours to recover and then work them again.....after a few weeks you'll be able to look at your log and see exactly how long it has taken your abs to fully recover between workouts. Now, everyone may be different on recovery time, as it all depends on genetics, how good your nutritional intake is and how much sleep/rest you give yourself...all this can hinder or speed up recovery time with all muscle groups.

I hope this helps some!

In the past I have done cruches everyday like it was my job and noticed that they were extremely hard and well defined. I didn't however use any weighted manuevers. This time around I'm going with the if its sore don't work it theory.

Aye caramba! I've been doing my abs and obliques 2 or even 3 times a week. I'm one of those genetically gifted guys. Cause I have very good definition already and I've been doing it for only 2-3 weeks. Oh, what helped me on the obliques was a weight over my head and bending side to side. Now that feels good.

Work those abs hard, and more importantly have a good nutritious diet, and you will see those abs in no time! Good luck angel!
