Advice for Femal Bodybuilder
I need some help... I have been weightlifting for 6 years, taking brief periods of time off to have three kids (not all at once!!). Recently a few people at the gym have been telling me I should enter a local contest (in April 04). I am actually kind of interested in doing this. My friends think I am nuts, but I am excited. I just love to lift and think it is great to have the opportunity to show it off, especially since I am always covered up by hospital scrubs. I don't even care if I win. I just don't want to make an ass of myself or embarass myself.
The problem...I don't know where to begin. The men at the gym compete and all seem willing to help me out, but they are MEN and I am only guessing here, but aren't there some differences in posing routines for men and women. Also, I need some SPECIFIC diet advice. I eat very healthy already. And I have a good basic general knowledge of diet due to my Nursing studies and profession, but I know there are "tricks" to pre show dieting. If anyone can point this girl in the right direction I would be ever so grateful!!!

Hi RN2BeIn'05. Welcome to DiscussFitness.com.
I don't know about contest preparation per se, but fat control and muscle gain is about intelligently toying with your carbohydrate intake—both during each day, and from day àday, depending on your activity schedule. Do you currently have some adopted scheme?

I know that I need a certain blood glucose level to feel "normal" ie not fuzzy headed. I usually eat my carbs in the forms of whole grain, unprocessed kinds in the moring and fibrous veggies throughout the day. I taper the carbs off in the evening. I am very busy with my three kids, full time college, and parttime work, I know I do not eat often enough through out the day. Any diet suggestions? Also, as a woman I still feel the stigma of "I can't eat all that, I'll be as big as a house!" Although, I KNOW that the only way muscle will grow is if it has the right fuel. Some help here would be great, but let's remember I am busy and on the go all the time....home, kids school, my school, my job, gym etc. ALSO I forgot to mention something that may be very important...I work midnights, how in the hell am I supposed to eat regularly when I don't even sleep in a regular pattern?
