Feel Blue on "Off" Days

On my off days I always feel like something is missing. I just hate not going to the gym. It's not that I'm obsessed with trying to get skinny. But, I feel emotionally addicted to working out. It's like I need the endorphins or something.

This really sucks because the chain of events works something like this:
1) Off day
2) Feel Blue 'cause can't go to gym
3) Don't eat right 'cause feel blue (don't gorge, but don't eat my six little well balanced meals)
4) Feel bluer 'cause I am not eating right.

As soon as my "on" day comes I"m totally stoked. I feel good again.

I think that I'm addicted to working out. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do to stay more balanced/fulfilled on my off days?

hmmmm perhaps try going out for a brisk walk early in the morning. more called active rest, meaning that you keep active but by doing things you enjoy and will free your mind.

geeze.. that's exactly how I feel... and one of the reasons that I am currently on a 5day split routine... that way atleast mon - frid I don't have to worry about it and stick to my routine and eating habits better... Good suggestion Jen I think I'll be doing that on Sat and Sun maybe it will help out!

Yea same here, I wanna keep working everyday so I got is split up so much i can concentrate on one or 2 muscle groups per day and keep working out daily.

I don't have that problem, but I do feel like im being usless on my off days but remeber that resting is as importaint as working out itself.

Yea the suggestion of a mild activity to get your body circulating and what not on your off days is a very good one

I feel like that too SillyMe! And it's a bummer. I think we'll do better with it now that the weather is getting warmer so we can be outside a lot. That seems to help me, just working, doing my laundry, washing the car, that kind of stuff.....maybe walking around downtown w/ kids, stuff like that.

Well, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who misses the gym. Thanks for the responses.

In terms of light activity on my off day. Walking is only fun with a friend. I'm so pathetic, I only have one friend who lives close enough to go on walks with, and she is kind of depressed so she bails out all the time. Walking with just my dogs is kind of boring.

Do you think that I could do high intensity aerobics on my off day, or is that too much? Or how about swimming laps would that be OK?

I would go with something more lower intensity on your day off. the idea is to let your body rest some and not get burnt out. swimming laps would be great!

Sillyme, I feel the same way you do on my rest day (usually saturday). What I like to do is go hiking to the mountain near my house (slow walking during an hour or two) or bycicling around my neighborhood. Another idea is stretching or do some easy yoga positions at home.

SillyMe,
Some good music in the ears livens things up on the walks!
