Question

Glutes and hamstrings

This is so frustrating...i need some good advice on how to fix this situation.
I love focusing on my lower body, i like having firm and strong glutes and hamstrings.
Besides the regular lower body machines i use at the gym, i like to do Squants and Lunges with dumbells. (8 pound dumbells).
I find that i always feel more tension within my LEFT side more than the right one...and my right glute seems to be slightly bigger as well.

What should i change about my workout routine? (ex. the sets on which leg etc.)

ps: if there are other women with this issue lol id greatly appreciate it if you could let me know how you handled it.

Do you feel that your glutes and hamstrings are really being taxed by using eight pound dumbbells? How many reps are you doing per set? I can't imagine that you're going to effectively address any perceived imbalance without processing more weight. Have you tried exercising with 15-pounders (or more)?

I would assume you are just right handed and your body's preference is the right side. I would lift heavier weights.

BTW: I am squatting my bodyweight. I doubt that 8 lbs is taxing.

Yes i know what you mean, 8 pounds isnt alot at all.
But i perform the squants and lunges after i work my lower body on the machines.

I used to squat without dumbells, just my body weight. I wanted to start off with adding low weights first and then moving up.

So you think that it would even out more if i use heavier weights?

Without question, yes.
At what rate will you attempt to increase those squats and lunges?

I'd say ditch the machines altogether and focus on the squats and lunges. If you want to use machines at all, use them afterwards so that you can have more energy for the more important exercises.

Don't stop at 15 lbs! Increase it each week by more weight or more reps until you reach your bodyweight. The more weight you can lift, the more toned the body will get and the stronger your bones will stay.
