Question

Hormones?

So i found uot a while ago i have polycystic ovarian syndrome. Thats basically when the ovaries have multiple cysts...and because of that i dont ovulate, which causes my body to release testosterone. So now because of all this, my hips have gotten narrower (and my breasts got smaller).

Now wondering, are there any workouts i can do to give myself a more curvier look?

ps: I have an appointment soon regarding this issue, ill probably get some pills to even out my hormones, would that make my hips wider again?

I wouldn't worry about the figure right now - just worry about getting those cysts taken care of. But yes, when they put you on HRT to take care of them, you will become more "girly" looking. Some women have weight gain problems from these hormones. Some just get the perfect amount of gain. Each woman is a bit different. However the most important thing is your health - not your hips or your breasts.

A warning though - if the doc want's you to take DMSO therapy -- RUN AWAY, FAR FAR AWAY and find another doc. Not only will your family make you ride home in the back of a truck because you'll smell like garlic so bad, it won't work. There is a reason the insurance companies call it quackery and won't pay for it.

Sorry to hear about your condition. The best thing to do is get good medical advice and follow it. Don't worry about how things look right now.

I have multiple fibroids. Basically I am carrying around extra muscle but not the type most people want (cysts of muscle tissue equivalent to a grapefruit, orange and egg inside me). I'll always be looking 4 mos prego until either meno or my turn comes up for treatment. In the mean time I just carry on with realistic expectations. I don't see it except in the morning when I have a full bladder.

Your health and well being comes first before appearance issues. I'm sure getting your hormone levels normalized will go a long way to make you feel like you again.

Pawn, i dont take any medication for it. I still need to see the gynocologist for her to presrcibe me something. (i waited for 4 months with this condition...the health care system is terrible).

And you guys are absolutely right! It's just that it doesnt do much good to my selfesteem, when my figure starts looking masculine. But i hope the hormones can reverse everything, and make it go back to normal.

Hmm..it might help. But what if it makes it worse? We're still unsure of what might have caused the cysts in the first place...so i dont want to do anything im sure about, incase the outcome might not be so good.

What type of healthcare do you have where you are not in an endocrinoligist's office, finding out what is really up? Hormones are tricky. When one goes up, there's another that's down, or could possibly go up to combat the first one. External hormones, in my opinion, are thrown around in this country like candy, when other options are needed first.

As for what's first, your diet and exercise will level out some of what you have. Are you already eating clean and working out daily? Try getting some extra soy. Net search soy and estrogen for why I would suggest that.

soya contains phytoestrogens - they're weaker forms of oestrogen and act as oestrogen inhibitors because by binding to oestrogen receptors, they prevent the stronger oestrogen hormones from binding and activating.

You are far better off dealing with this with your doctor/ specialist.

Keep pushing until you are heard and get action. Sometimes the healthcare system only reacts quickly to the squeaky wheel.

I've had/have PCOS also. Current research indicates it's an effect of insulin resistance, not a primary ovarian effect/disease. Medications to control insulin resistance (metformin, avandia, actos) are helpful, as are a healthy diet and exercise. I've been able to get off the medications once my weight decreased to a point where I could control the symptoms with diet and exercise. Some women with elevated testosterone levels also take some medications that help to suppress the effects of the testosterone (I never took those). Birth control pills help to mask the symptoms by giving you the appearance of a period, but don't treat the root cause, and depending on the specific pill formulation, may make things worse.

Good luck to you!
