Is it true..?
Hey Guys...
I only want lose about 8 lbs. in weight. I've started working out with weights, because I want to tone and sculpt. A friend of mine told me to lose the 8 lbs. FIRST by doing cardio for a month, THEN start sculpting with weights. Does this hold any truth??
Thanx!

Personally, I think you should do both!
No, really, there is no need for you to ditch lifting weights until you loose 8 pounds.

Well, yes, right now I'm doing both, I do weight training, then 30 min. of cardio. She's telling me to up the cardio and don't try to sculpt till I'm at the weight I want to be. But that just doesn't sound right to me.

Is she a trainer? I think if you are enjoying lifting and then doing your cardio, then continue to do that. I think it's beneficial anyway. Weight lifting increases your metablism too.

I've heard a lot of people on these boards say not to cardio on lift days, because it will eradicate many of the gains you may have made from lifting.
Can anyone who actually knows what they're talking about help me out here?

As I understand your first post, you seem to be asking if you should do cardio exclusively until you reach your weight goal ... then incorporate weight training. My answer, in a word, is a resounding "NO".
By focusing on cardio (excluding resistance training), an unnecessary portion of that weight lost will be lean body mass (including muscle). Protect the muscle at all costs. Resistance training, combined with a quality nutition plan is how it's done. If you choose to add cardio to your fitness plan to benefit your cardiovascular system (or just because you like to do it), then fine — but it should ALWAYS take a back seat to weight-training. :
