Is there any way for nice abs without lifting weights?

Okay, well, I'm 15 years old and right now my parents are having problems, so my whole paycheck goes to them, at the moment. Therefor, I'm unable to pay for a gym membership, or purchase any equipment, etc. So I was wondering - is there any way to acheive nice abs without weights? I'd love something like below, but in "my" version, since I do know her genetics / bodytype is different than mine. Just something similar..

1. http://images.zap2it.com/20040806/t_...obileparty.jpg 2. http://images.zap2it.com/20040806/t_...obileparty.jpg

I need help on exercises that would help, if possible. If I can't get something like above, can you explain to me what I could get for now, until I can get a gym membership? Thank you.

A huge part of abs is diet and lowering your overall body fat. But if you have no real muscle there, then when you diet...there will be nothing to show off. Weighted sit ups or crunches would be a good start, just grab something heavy enough to work you good, maybe 4 sets of 10 and then bodyweight exercises after that.

A few things to keep in mind...don't work the abs more than 2-3 times a week. That will mean overtraining which means you get nothing. The "burn" does NOT mean a better workout. I would recommend simply keeping an eye on your diet and also running 2-3 times a week. It will take time, so be patient. And good luck

weighted crunches are your best bet, without doubt.

when you think "weighted", don't think "weights" - just look around and grab something: a large book, a big can of ketchup, a firebrick, whatever.

lie on the floor with your lower legs up resting on the coffee table or a chair or similar. you want your thighs going straight up and down.

place the object on your chest comfortably.

the exercise is done by simply crunching your stomach muscles as hard as you can. you'll feel your shoulders lift up off the floor. hold it for a count of 3, then relax your stomach muscles to allow your shoulders to lower to the floor again but don't rest flat! keep the tension on your stomach muscles.

repeat as many times as you can the first time - if you can do more than 12, find something heavier. if you can't do 10, get something lighter.

to get some dumbbells is easy: there are stacks of them littering up every garage sale, flea market, and goodwill shop in the country. you should be able to pick up a pair or two for just a couple bucks - literally: the last set i saw was a pair of gold vinyl 10 pounders going for $3.

I agree that getting tight/defined abs doesn't require weights. Just diet and good ab exercises. If you need weight do hanging leg raises.

As three norms mentioned you don't need formal weights to get a good workout. Milk jugs filled with water are great for homemade weights. An old broom handle is good for ab twists. And if you want weight, you just put the mild jugs hangin on each side.
Go to any playground and you can do pullups or hanging leg raises. Just get creative and you can make yourself a makeshift gym.

If you don’t have weights, fill a couple of water bottles with water, and use them. Make your own weights for legs and butt by cutting a pair of old stockings and fill the legs with rice. Tie them and put them around your ankles.

You can make your own weights by filling old socks with beans or pennies, or partially filling a half-gallon milk jug with water or sand. Used equipment can be purchased at some athletic stores and can usually be found in newspaper classified ads.

1) Tennis Balls
Cut a small slit in one side of the tennis ball and fill the ball with pennies. Once the ball is full seal the slit with Super Glue, or some other reliable sealant. You now have a light dumbbell.

2) Tennis Ball Can
Remove that balls from the can, fill the can with sand and replace the lid. It's a good idea to wrap the can with athletic or electrical tape. This will prevent the lid from working itself off, and will prevent spills in case the can cracks. You can also use a Racquetball can. This gives the "next size up" dumbbell.

3) Milk Jugs & Paint Cans
Fill the empty milk jug or paint can with sand and replace the lid. You should use some type of sealant to help prevent the lid from working itself off. These are your heavy dumbbells.

4) Playground Balls
You can find these balls in the toy section of most larger stores like Wal-Mart. You can also use the type of balls used on the playgrounds for kickball. Pop the plug on the ball and let all the air out. Now fill the ball with water. This can be a little time consuming, you can either hold the ball under the faucet or submerse it in the bath tub. Make sure to use cold water, if hot water is used the ball will expande while filling, but when the water cools it will not return to its original size and you will have air pockets in the ball. Once full of water replace the plug. You now have created your own medicine ball. For a heavier medicine ball simply choose the "oversized" balls found in toy stores and toy sections of department stores.

Thanks so much, guys! Could any of you help me create a workout routine? I'll use water bottles filled with rice. And I have a really heavy encyclopedia.

Honestly your determination is commendable but I have seen used weights at the second had store for < $0.45 a pound. For $0.90 you could get something much less awkward than an encycolpedia or a water bottle to hold onto. That's less than a bag of chips or a coke or a Starbucks.

Buy just a plate weight to hold on to. Next time buy another plate weight and then the bar to make a dumbbell from. Before you know it you will have a something to do more than abs with.
