I just peek in once in a while to make sure you gals aren't gossiping about me.

Seriously, I do come in to read because I'm raising an 11 year old daughter alone and every bit of "girl stuff" I can learn and file away in my tiny little male reptilian brain may be useful someday.

The biggest shocker was the day in the summer when I had two 11 year olds that I was watching at the same time and they both started first periods within an hour of each other at the same softball game...AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH. Somebody just go ahead and shoot me please.

Ooooh V, I feel for ya man!

I had a young girl visit us for the weekend and the same thing happened. We reacted calmly but spent more energy calming her down because she was so embarassed.

I guess that's the lesson,....lack of embarassment and total acceptance of what is naturally going to happen to our female bodies over time. That first trip to pick up tampax must have been a joy and a half, eh?

Okay so Pie's got me scratching my head,...
But as for V -- duuuude, way to go! And I thought I had a healthy health background: EMT(I), PA, surgical assistant, worked triage in the ER 2 years (part of the EMT-I training though, but they really pull you in, involvement wise if they trust you), CPT,...and I was in a band (played drums in one band - we even cut an album, and in another band, I was the sound engineer). Okay the last 2 aren't health related but man you sure see a lot of crap go down.

Meridda, it's really not that impressive. Just spent a long time doing it and the classes kept adding up. I would really love to be able to go back to just running calls and not have any management responsibilities. I don't like the brass and don't like being one of them. Oh well...things happen.

Well I'm impressed. Remember, I never made it as high up the ladder as you did. I was happy when I graduated to using IV's and thought I was hot stuff (please remember, dear Lord, this was ages ago). I remember in my EMT training, not being remotely paranoid of needles I made the silly mistake of volunteering to let the EMT-I's in training practice sticking and poking me with needles. The tops of my hands were bruised for weeks! Yeah, last time I volunteer to get poked. But in the end, it's part of what inspired me. Never had the yearning to edge towards cardiac though. Things may have changed a lot since "my day," but honestly, I am impressed.

And while I think you're in the majority with most of us hating the top brass and red tape,....why don't you like it?

Because I don't want to be the boss. I just want to run calls, help people, and go home when my shift is over...when it eventually gets to end. The shiny gold badge and name tag they gave me isn't worth the headaches. Besides, I usually work in a Tee shirt or polo shirt anyway.

Seven 24 hour shifts and Seven days on call each month gives me lots of time to spend with my daughter, albeit not much money to spend on her. Just working on the truck is a pretty sweet gig. Being responsible for everyone else and what they all do, making sure they all get it right...isn't.
