Lunges vs. squats

Whats really the difference in these two exercises? I feel that squats are the best for building my bum. I learned that in 2 weeks, but I also got bigger legs and thats not what I wanted. Would lunges do the same thing?

you got bigger legs in 2 weeks??? hmmmmm I find that rather hard to see. one thing that you will find when training legs is the post training swelling due to the extra blood flow in the area (the legs).. so while they are healing they may seem a big larger. I know my pants feel a bit tighter. just lasts a day or 2 though at most.

lunges work more the outer sweep of your quad along with your glutes and somewhat your hamstrings as well. its more a total leg move.

lunges and squat work both the butt and the thigh. squat is generally more effective for both in my opinion, especially the butt if you go down deep.
