Mess up in the evenings
I do so great with eating all day...oatmeal, tuna, veggies, water, etc. etc. But then around 5-6 pm I start munching, munching, munching.
I know you're gonna say eat more during the day, it's just I'm not really hungry at all, though I do try.
I don't really pig out or anything, I'm not gaining weight, but have hit a plateau.....and that's probably why.....
Do you basically just have to force food down the hatch earlier in the day even though you're not hungry at all?

No. The amount of food that you have during a single day should be (relatively) evenly distributed in smaller amounts that can be efficiently assimilated by your body. For optimal effectiveness, it should be planned out. With plan in hand (or 'in head'), it should not be difficult to stay within your dietary bounds. Simply munching because you are 'hungry' is usually counter-productive. If, over some period of weeks, you feel that your body needs more/less nutrition to reach your fitness goals, then make changes to the plan, not to momentary hunger pains.

You sound as if you're eating as a result of emotions or boredom as opposed to actual hunger.
When the urge to eat strikes, go do something else- take a walk around the block, read a book, etc., just don't go to the fridge.....

Amy I can totally relate to what your saying. I think Tuna is right - you/we are eating in response to life/emotion rather than in response to our bodies. I think that when you take good care of yourself and are in tune with your physical/emotional needs you will find that your eating habits become more well rounded (less night-time eating)

Hey SA, I'm with ya on the nite time eating! I do notice, however that when I force myself to eat well during the day.. and enough portions.. I don't get as hungry or crave stuff at nite. Something yummy I make is a yogurt with no sugar.. (only fruit juice concentrate..and I dump out most of the fruit part out anywayz)
mixed with soy protein powder and a few roasted almonds.. it's delish! and tastes like cake pudding mix.. amazing. The kind of yogurt i buy is called Cascade Fresh.. or something ..and it's from Whole Foods market.
also... drinking tons of water throughout the day and nite keeps my cravings and appetite down.

oh..ps. Um, yeah.. you do have to force more food down during the day, cuz that's what i had to do... and then my body got used to eating more during the day, and then it kinda "re-sets" you to be hungry at that time..instead of at nite so much.. hope that helps.

Yeah when that happens i drink a huge glass of water and it makes the hunger pain go away. Sometimes ill grab a couple pieces of chicken from the fridge. Seems to help. I used to stop drinking water after my last meal and then i realized i was getting hungry before bed. Now i keep drinking water after that meal and everything is better now. I dont get as hungry.

Oh yeah, SA, forgot to tell you this too..
I noticed that when I do my work-outs later at nite, like
after 7 ish, I get more hungry. So, I try and do cardio in the am..
and weights no later than like 5 or 6 pm.
Otherwise, I get a huge hunger surge at nite.. and I
have trouble regulating my portions at nite.
