Mom needs workout

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on creating a workout program for a 50+ woman with bad knees. I am guessing high reps weight training, and gradually increasing cardio. But what cardio would be best ?

How much weight does she need to lose? What equipment does she have available to her? What are her eating habits like?

Make sure that the salads include some quality form of protein: chicken, tuna, etc. Lose any bad eating habits (generally, restrict simple/processed carbohydrate intake, focus on vegetable consumption, have some fruit, include adequate protein, consume enough essential fat).

As far as exercise goes, have her focus on compound, freeweight exercise. Try a good whole body workout (using just five or six exercises that address all major muscle groups) three times a week. For fat loss, arobics are secondary to diet and resistance training (and certainly should not be considered a reasonable solution to fat-loss without diet and resistance training).

She is already in some pain from her knees. And I heard that taking pain medication will prevent muscle growth. Are there any pain medications that she can take ?

Can't say. I'm not a doc. Sorry.

Do she know specifically what the cause of he pain is? Can she do body-weight exercises without pain (simple knee-bends, for example)?

Hello there
I've got a gammy knee right now which was really frustrating at first - I've got a really good physiotherapist who suggests the best exercises and modifications to what I previously could do - maybe your mum should talk things over with a physio? My goal was initially weight loss too - had a big revamp with what I was eating - read lots to work out what I should be eating - this was before I found this website! Got so hooked on the exercise thing that it's part of my day now.
cheers
