My issues with women ( besides the obvious)

Okay so I have issues with women wanting to loose weight. My friends see me the other night I have not seen in a while and they are like OH MY GOD you look great so then they want me to tell them every detail of how I lost all my weight. Well let me tell you that I would have made all of thier FREAKIN dreams come true if I would have said " well I went on the 3 day Hollywood Diet and did nothing but drink this shake and starved myself to death). They would have said " YES so you are proof that it works and I am going to do it ( starve ). Well when I tell them well its a piece of cake. Eat right and exercise. OH MY you would have thought I dropped a bomb on them. Then one says well I have been on the South Beach diet and I lost 20 pounds in 2 days ( exageration but you get my point) I was like okay you KNOW that is not healthy right and she was like well different things work for different people! I was like ummmm yeah okay you go on with your bad self. Why is it when people want my advice and I tell them gym and eating they do not follow that at all but if I tell them ummm south beach diet or just do not eat they they are the next day doing just that.

you know what Amkey , its more than a women thing, men do the same thing to me. I get some buddies to the gym with me and they said they want to see their abs. Im like ok thats fine do cardio and work your abs out but just do them normally. Well first off they come back and said they did like 10000 crunchs and weighted crunchs and no cardio. I laugh. I said first off weighted crunches are a waste . I said did you do your cardio ? they said no just crunches. I said you have to do your cardio. I said do that and forget the weighted crunches , just do 3 different exerses for your abs hitting lower mid and upper and thats it dont make it harder than it has to be. This is the responce i get, "you think you know everything"!!!!!!!!! Thats pisses me off cause im spending my time trying to help them cause i know how it feels to not know what to do because i learned from trial and error. Needless to say i dont help them anymore and they all stoped going to the gym.

You should do what I do and DON'T TRY TO HELP PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY. You know the kind of people I mean it is a waste of air to try and get through to them. Tell them you were on the oatmeal diet or the liver diet.

LOL!
Seriously now when people ask me how I did it. I say ask me when your serious. They say I am serious and then I say well are you ready to go to the gym everyday and get up every morning to run 5 miles and they say no way I do not have time for that and then I say well when you are willing to do anything then you are only partly serious. then they get mad and say well fine then nevermind and I say good!

Truth be told, even when people COME to you and ASK for help,.... it doesn't always work Amk.

I just "lost" a potential client because of that very reason.

I interviewed her last week and she was seeking a trainer to "push her to the limits" of her endurance and she just "had to see results really fast" or she just knew she wouldn't stick with it. It took her two months to "be able" to meet with me (she first needed just one particular day/time or it just wouldn't work).

Then came our appointment. I explained I teach "weight management" not weight loss,...but that weight loss does occur, but with what I teach, it stays off.

Nope, not good enough. Despite protestations of the drive to change her lifestyle for good and "this time" keep the weight off,....she really was seeking a miracle trainer to take the credit or take the blame. This is my feeling (after deliberation).

If she didn't get "good results" in a month, it would have been "my fault" for not working her hard enough. She cancelled with me, stating I was just not "tough enough" for her, so we wouldn't work.

I believe she has the mentality many do which has led to repeated failures....she's yo-yo'd her way up and down that scale, but still insists that SHE knows what to do and how to do it, not me, and that HER way is right, despite the fact it hasn't worked in the past.

My Husband tries to tell me to calm down and not take it so personally, but I do, it irritates me. Rejecting new approaches without even trying them, rejection of professional expertise in an area they have no background in,....yet they come to you for help,...but, only if you tell them what they want to hear the way they want to hear it.

People would rather take pills, drink juices, and starve themselves for a few days or even weeks, see that "fast weight loss".... then fall off the wagon,...than face the fact that their lifestyle needs modifying, and face the fact that they may need to make changes.

It may be both men and women with their own issues, but I find women quite often are so difficult to work with for this one reason.

Not that men don't have their stubborn streak too (ie: lift heavy, lift big, ggrrrr, me he-man, grrrr).

I do agree that doing the whole fad diet thing is absolutely the wrong mindset for these kind of people to be in.. but they may not have to be extensively super serious to reach their goals... it may take them more time.. but goals can be reached slower...but I guess they are the one's wanting quick results...

people like that just are uneducated... and need to read more... and stop watching infomercials

hey guys....you have to remember too that these people that are asking you they want to change themselves so theres the first step...

what's worked for me is this message board because i read about all these things that i wouldn't have known about before...I still don't know what some of the exersizes are that you people talk about but like im trying to learn and I've lost 9 lbs already in about 3 weeks of diet change, cardio and weight training.

I still would love the easy-way out but I see that's just not the right thing to do because it's unhealthy and going to hurt my body...

I've looked at a few of these supposed miracle weight loss things and then I was all ready to buy it and use it then i looked it up and asked questions about it on this site and did my own research I figured out it was going to affect my human growth hormone or something and same goes for a few out there...

the best way to educate people is recommend them on what to do....where to find information on what they shouldn't do and they need motivation. I'm still working hard and I'm still asking questions and I figure this is better then other things I've tried that have worked but ultimately hurt my body (bulimea, starving, diets)

I figure I'm not on a diet anymore as much as I'm on a different lifestyle change, I eat properly and keep myself happy.

Sorry for typing so much

Merrida, i love those people..... you can play a few games with them though....tell them something like "make sure you don't wear new running shoes on leg day, the puke won't come out" I've trained obsessively and "pushed my limits" and if a yo-yo trainer tried working that hard for 2 weeks, they will soon beg for a moderate approach! (for the record, i do believe in insane workloads, but only for 2 weeks every 6-12 months!)

Well for the record, what I've discovered is that THAT is also quite relative. Some people find that they work "insanely" or "intensely" doing "a lot less" than what they WERE doing because I show them a new WAY of exercising. And THAT is MY forte.

I'm extremely detail oriented and thrive in that environment where small details make the difference and you don't have to stun the body by just jacking up the pounds, -- rather, I like to teach the body to learn, to understand the function of each muscle and get in touch with what the muscle is SUPPOSED to be doing,...not just piling more plates on and hoping you can budge it.

Identification with your body and how it feels can be surprisingly intense and powerful, yet what frustrates me is,.... I've proven that fact time and time again for years. If AFTER the fact you can look me in the eye and tell me I'm wrong or my approach doesn't work, I can respect that with the understanding we're all different.

What frosts my butt is when someone refuses to TRY what I am trying to educate them on because they're stuck in a mindset that has provided them with repeated failures, yet clings to it tenaciously,... and rejects MY approach without experiencing it. THAT is what really bugs me and that's what I have (admittedly) a difficult time "letting go" of, (as the Hubby would say).

fine...a step in the right direction....but as soon as they hear they actually have to get of their butts and DO something....oooh boy!

All the excuses I have heard...lalalala...most say they have no time...but they have time to watch soap operas every night ...time to go to the bar...blah blah blah

ok, I'm just ranting here...IMO, these people with all their excuses....are looking for reasons NOT to look good...reasons to blame their weightproblems on...reasons to blame their loneliness on...." I'm fat/skinny and nobody looks at me...and I don't have time or money or whatever to work out"
