Truth be told, even when people COME to you and ASK for help,.... it doesn't always work Amk.
I just "lost" a potential client because of that very reason.
I interviewed her last week and she was seeking a trainer to "push her to the limits" of her endurance and she just "had to see results really fast" or she just knew she wouldn't stick with it. It took her two months to "be able" to meet with me (she first needed just one particular day/time or it just wouldn't work).
Then came our appointment. I explained I teach "weight management" not
weight loss,...but that weight loss does occur, but with what I teach, it stays off.
Nope, not good enough. Despite protestations of the drive to change her lifestyle for good and "this time" keep the weight off,....she really was seeking a miracle trainer to take the credit or take the blame. This is my feeling (after deliberation).
If she didn't get "good results" in a month, it would have been "my fault" for not working her hard enough. She cancelled with me, stating I was just not "tough enough" for her, so we wouldn't work.
I believe she has the mentality many do which has led to repeated failures....she's yo-yo'd her way up and down that scale, but still insists that SHE knows what to do and how to do it, not me, and that HER way is right, despite the fact it hasn't worked in the past.
My Husband tries to tell me to calm down and not take it so personally, but I do, it irritates me. Rejecting new approaches without even trying them, rejection of professional expertise in an area they have no background in,....yet they come to you for help,...but, only if you tell them what they want to hear the way they want to hear it.
People would rather take pills, drink juices, and starve themselves for a few days or even weeks, see that "fast weight loss".... then fall off the wagon,...than face the fact that their lifestyle needs modifying, and face the fact that they may need to make changes.
It may be both men and women with their own issues, but I find women quite often are so difficult to work with for this one reason.
Not that men don't have their stubborn streak too (ie: lift heavy, lift big, ggrrrr, me he-man, grrrr).
