Period screw up your workouts?

Does anyone find that they are weaker around their period? Today I was unbelievably weak at the gym. I had to drop poundage on everything. I though that maybe I wasn't focused enough. So I kept trying to boost my focus. No deal - my muslces were just not gonna perform up to standard. Does anyone else ever have this problem around their period?

I feel tired and lazy. And most of all bloated. One time I got on the scale during my . and I swear it said I gained 9 lbs??? Is that possible? Then after about a week I weighed myself and I was normal.

I have a concern with periods, though not as much weakness as intensity. I have only been lifting for about 10 weeks, and my periods have almost disappeared in terms of flow. They used to be quite heavy. Please help. Comments? Advice?

I'm not a doctor, nor a woman, but wouldn't decreased flow be something to be happy about maybe?

a month? goodness that is a long time!
I remember about 2 years ago i moved out of my home town. My period stopped for 6months. I had absolutely nothing. It was great. It wasn't due to bad health, i think it was just because i had moved and my body was trying to adjust tot he new environment. Maybe your periods have decreased because your body's adjusting to the weight program.
just an idea anyways
Also i find my periods totally stuff up my fitness program big time. I feel weaker, i feel tired and unmotivated..! And to add to all that i get severe shakes, sweats and pain! I hate them!! with a passion!

I have trouble with motivation anyway, but during my period it goes in the toilet.

About your period stopping, getting lighter, continuing for longer than usual; any number of things can cause our bodies to go out of whack. For example, stress, diet change, exercise change, birth control change etc. etc. Normally, it just figures out the change and then works it all out. If it's a persistant problem then I would obviously have it checked out. Also, if your BF% goes down too low it can cause your body to stop mensturating. This is not a good thing so if it happens because of that I would talk with my doctor to see what he/she recommends.

I hear ya MissG! I get the worst periods ever..terrible cramps, digestion problems, back and muscle pain, sweats, shakiness, nightmares.. the worst! I also can't seem to get out of the pattern of gaining at least 5-6 lbs every month around that time, my diet and exercise goes down the drain..and it takes me the 2 weeks before my next period to get back on track.. just a yo-yo cycle every month..I hate it!

any suggestions from anyone would be helpful

Have you talked to your doctor? That does sound very extreme. Taking birth control pills to tame your period might be a good idea.

Hey midgetcop..thx for your advice. Yeah, I've tried all sorts of birth control, and also went to a Chinese Dr. to do accupuncture and herbal treatments which helped for a while, but now it's back to being worse. I'll keep searching for answers.. I wish there was a way to eliminate even getting my period without losing my femininity.. I don't want to give birth, maybe adapt a child later on..so, no need for my period really. I just don't think getting a hysterectomy and forcing early menopause is healthy or emotionally good for me.. I just wish there was another way..oh well! thx again

mistress, i'm glad i'm not the only one. I have actually been to several drs regarding this and tried all the pain killers which i sware dont work. Now i just take the pill and skip the sugar pills so i dont have to put up with the pain monthly. I have them maybe every 6 months instead...it's great

I envy those girls who have pain free periods!
It's not fair!

If you're periods are extremely heavy and burdensome talk to your doctor about baloon ablation. I had it done and, though my periods are still a pain in the butt, they are no where near as awful as they used to be. Life is much nicer since having to done.

Down side - you can only get if if you are SURE that you do not want to have any more kids.
