Question

please give me your opinion

After my legs workout on tuesday, I was left with two blocks of cement instead of legs.... what I mean is that my legs are so sored that I feel them heavy when I walk or to anything. Tomorrow friday I schedule another leg workout. I have started lifting heavier weights according to this forum advices. So I have been feeling the difference these two weeks, and I have discovered that I am much stronger than what I thought, no wonder all the time I spent before lifting light was a waste
Anyway, my question is: is it ok to go ahead with tomorrow's legs workout even though I still feel my legs sored? Your opinions are greatly appreciated!
Thanxx

If your legs are still sore on Friday they may not have recovered in time for another heavy blast. That is only 3 days between hitting them and for alot of lifters this may not be enough time to adequately recover, really depends on each individual and there nutrition / *rest time. Alternatevely you could just go *light Friday as well.

*Rest - reffering to how much sleep you have gotten Tues, Wed, and Thur Night, some people suggest that this is a large factor in recovery and sitting on the couch watching TV doesn't count as rest time...

*light - "lighter" sets of 10-12 reps can be just as affective as heavy sets of 4-6 reps, really depends upon you intensity / effort. for example if you do a set of 200 lbs for 5 reps or 100 lbs for 10 reps your total amount of work is the same so in theory you have moved the same amount of weight or worked just as hard, while putting less stress on your joints.

Really it's going to come down to how "you" feel on Friday.

I would rest the legs, remember then are recovering and strengthening.
Last week i had a hard plyometric session, which made my legs sore for 4 days.
I found the best thing to do, is do lots of stretching.
If you know you've hit your legs hard, when in the shower afterwards, spray cold/hot water on then muscles. That will aid recovery.

I definitely think you should give the legs a bit more time to rest if they're still *very* sore. If they're hurting now, just imagine how sore they'll be after another hard workout! Give them some time to heal - remember, this is when your muscles are growing.

I remember that when I first started to work my legs, my first few workouts would leave me nearly crippled for about a week. The good news is, is that after a while your legs will eventually adapt and won't leave you walking funny for days on end.

I agree, no point in working legs if they aint recoverd yet. The point of bodybuilding is to built, not breakdown u'r body.

This is funny, that's exactly how I felt these last couple of days! You know, I have ran several marathons in the past, and yeah I was almost crippled after finishing each of those events. Now, I am new at working with heavy weights and feeling exactly the same thing. I hope it will eventually get better.

This morning I woke up feeling much rested and better, still a little sore but nothing compared to yesterday. I had a good night sleep, maybe it made the difference. So, I think I will give my legs a try and do a lighter workout today. Thanks for your opinions

i say if your legs are slightly sore just go for it. just lift lighter weights. make sure you don't go to failure though. especially if you're lifting legs twice a week, don't go to failure either day. you won't be hurting recovery if they are just slightly sore in my opinion. as lnog as you're not doing it every workout, no big deal. its more important to work out consistently and get used to the frequency of lifting instead of skipping because you're sore due to adjusting. if you skip workouts like this, its gonna take a toll on your long-term results. in my opinion people here focus too much on recovery. while i think its very important, i do think its a bit overstated by some.

Very interesting post Maurer, I tend to agree with you... and not agree? if that makes any sense. there are two sides to this 'story', which is the right aproach depends up on the person asking the question and what would best suit there needs. for example if skipping a leg workout, (second one for this week) doesn't cuase a major change in their overall consistancy it is probably better to skip it for recovery purposes, on the other hand if the said person isn't as conistant I would agree and say hit the legs lightly... I generally waffle between hitting each muscle group once or twice per week, mostly it depends upon my mood any what posts I have read today ... that and I usually just train 'instinctively'.... take it for what it's worth and keep MOVING FORWARD

You could try a light jog, I find that helps relieve the soreness. Usually the day after my light jog I could work legs again.

Hey man, I hear you.

But at the same time, if the legs are flaming hot iron rods of pain, they ain't doing no lifting.

I mean, c'mon. Everyone here remember how your legs felt after trying squats for the first few times?
