question about sciatica

I'm a petite girl. And I absolutely love working out. I love being in shape and looking fit. Recently, (not too recently) I joined Gold's gym. I've bee tryng to add a few pounds of muscle, but my metabolism is so high. Anyways, I hurt my sciatic nerve real bad when I was out with friends dancing at the club. Unfortunately, no pills or meds have eased the pain. Is there and excercise I can do to strengthen the nerve? Is there a stretch I can do to strengthen the nerve? Is there anything I can do so that I can get back to my squats?

Desperately seeking relief,
Autumn12

First, see a doctor to make sure what the problem is.

Some of the PTs, MDs, DOs, and chiropractors around here reccomend these stretches http://www.spine-health.com/topics/c.../sciaex07.html for sciatica and SI injury. Also somewhat helpful for problems with the psosas muscle (a frequent cause of sciatic type pain).

You are correct, for this kind of pain, medications too often don't help. Sometimes anti-inflammatories are good, sometimes not. Actual analgesics aren't much help for most people though.

Good luck getting this straightened out. With effort and persistance with your stretches and proper exercises, it can be done.

Autumn is the sciatica running down the side of your leg or the back?
