runnig and feeling sore.

does anyone's calf hurts (sore) while running?
I know this happenes when you are not use to running.... And I will try to build back to it.
Does anyone know a good way to improve your legs (I mean, to be able to run long without feeling sore) other than strength training, stretching, and running?
Is there any special exercise you know? any secret tricks?
thanks.

Shin splints. I got 'em when I started running, went away as I got used to it. Was quite painful though when I did have them. To reduce them get some new jogging shoes...shoes make a big diff by themselves, also treadmills are easier on your legs than pavement. As you run more your legs become more endurant and you can run farther. When a run becomes too easy, go farther until it gets hard.

Well, there are different kinds of 'sore' and the answer to your question depends on which kind you are experiencing. If you haven't been running much you might just be experiencing delayed onset soreness - the same thing that happens when you begin a new weight lifting program. For each eposide of soreness just rest until it goes away it will probably diminish with time.

If it is a different type of injury (like shin splints, as suggested) then this strategy may not work. The pain might return every time and might even get worse. This is a signal that you have a more fundamental problem than merely being out of shape.

IF its just soreness from not being used to running, and you would liek to not get that burning lactic acid built up in there, then you probably want to build for endurance. Low intensity jogging or running on the treadmill will probably help you to build your lactic acid resistance. Also, lifting light weight with alot of reps will build your resistance also.

If it is shin splints you're getting then I share your pain, I get them constantly and it really put me off cardio. Sounds pathetic...but I now run on the spot in my room...I find it doesn't hurt as much, and although it's probably not as intense, but heartreat is still up and the sweat still comes off, and if that happens I feel it's a good workout regardless.

You could try alternative exercise like dancing or swimming if you have cheap access, not that I'm trying to put you off It sounds like it's not bothering you enough to want to stop tho, so that's gr8

The trainers thing apparently helps though. When the winter's over I'll probably get some new ones and force myself to get back into real running
