Sister w/ovarian cysts

My older sister found out she has ovarian cycsts and she has to get them removed. Well because of the cysts, apperently her hormones are off a little and she has slightly elevated testosterone levels. She thinks the world has come to an end but I'm psyched telling her "dude! Go workout! You'll get a 6 pack with no problem!! This is a blessing!!!!!" Well I feel kinda guilty because she cried about it one time, so I just gotta know, am I being an azzhole or is she really going to see dramatic gains with the elevated testosterone?

Think of it this way.. how would you feel if you had your balls cut off and your sister came up to you saying "Now your estrogen is really high, we can go Bra SHopping together!" ?

And also calling your sister "Dude" isn't gonna help.

Geez how shallow or should I say insensitive!

This cuts at the core of her dreams and plans that she identifies with being female. It also opens up the real possibility for other "female" problems. Go apologize to her and hope that she has a sense of humour enough to not let the comment get to her.

I wish her godspeed in getting the medical attention she needs to normalize her hormones as best as possible.

a tiny bit of extra test for a woman can be a good thing. Ovarian cysts are a bad way to get it. They can be very painful. They can be a warning that other female problems are in her future. Just explain to her that you didn't know/didn't understand and things can probably be cool again.

Best wishes for finding the appropriate treatment that will help her.

Or rather, after having his balls cut off, his sister came up to him and said - congratulations, your life expentancy just went up, this is really a blessing.

Come on gals - he didn't know. Now he does. Most men don't know or understand until they've had a woman with these problems in their house. Even with considerable medical experience - they don't truly understand. How can we without experiencing it or living with it?

I knew it all from the books, the theory and the medical knowledge was there. Until my wife had such problems, I didn't truly understand. Even some physician friends of mine - even female ones - have no clue if they haven't lived with it or experienced it...and they should know. See it in the office, order blood tests and ultrasounds, prescribe medications, spend 10-20 minutes with the patient...this doesn't lead to real understanding.

Female anatomy and physiology can be complicated. A lot of stuff in there that can go wrong.

Andy, man, dont diss us guys like that. I'm sure most guys in high schools know what an ovary is.
At age 12 I knew that removing ovaries was a serios matter.

Not a diss. Seriously, unless we've lived with it we really can't truly understand the complexities of hormonal imbalances in women or the amount of pain they often have to go through when things are off. Our test gets low - we feel week, tired, grouchy, unmotivated, and look like Lance Armstrong. It gets a little high we feel powerful, strong, aggressive...manly. For women it's just so much more complicated.

The balance between the anterior pituitary, the posterior pituitary, the adrenal cortex, the hypothalamus, the ovaries, and the hormones is so delicate for women.

I've got a bit of extra experience with it than most men because my wife has sheehan's syndrome from serious complications during childbirth 10 years ago. She's going to die of old age while she's still young. A terrible thing to helplessly witness. HRT helps but not as much as we'd like.

The chemical stuff going on in the female hormone system is so complicated that any man can be forgiven for not understanding it. However we've got to live with it and be supportive and take care of our women. If that means go sit quitely in the corner, do whatever they want, absorb the occasional undeserved cussing...whatever. Just love them, support them, and treat them well...because we don't have them forever.

Of course you know why God made it so that married men die on average 7 years sooner than women? He felt sorry for us.

I don't understand why this was posted in the female forum to begin with. It asked no question about advice to help her and it only attracted male responses. I thought this was about fitness advice for women.

I think you guys are missing the general chat too much. IMO stick it in your journal if it doesn't fit anywhere else. Nothing would scare off a new female visiter to this forum and DF more than to be laughed at for something out of her control.

With the tone of most of your posts lately i'd say you also have too much test in your system...

From the tone this thread has taken is this the time to mention the hen who got an ovarian cyst stopped laying eggs took on cock charactarestics inc that red thing at the beak whats it called again? and even changed sexual preference.

Because it is her not actually posting i dont mind mentioning it but it will be a very sensitive matter esp the risk of hirsutism like you waking up with gyno and extras. However since it is diagnosed she should be adequatly treated.

On another note did ye know some business women get injections of testosterone 100mgs a month to give them an aggressive edge against their male counterparts in the business world. Their libido also becomes suped up.

I'm sorry. I don't tease her that much about it, and yeah I did go give her a big hug and told her I loved her (c'mon see I'm a nice guy). Was just trying to lighten the situation. I know anything that requires surgery is pretty serious, and yeah she did tell me that if/when I get manhood problems, she'll be the first to laugh at me. With family like mine, who needs enemies eh?
