Yes. If you read the previous posts in this thread, I believe I did mention the fact that I have been fitted, so I'm not pulling numbers out of my hat. However, I find the fitting is of little use since every manufacture seems to have their own guidelines. But yes, I have indeed been fitted.

When walking past the women's clothing section, I've never seen a sales clerk with a tape measure wrapped around a women's chest.
So where does this fitting take place?

in the relative privacy of a curtained haven, Pierini. It is, however, a mostly undignified affair

You can't really measure around the shirt, and most women don't just want to take off their tops in the middle of the store, so into the dressing room they must go.

And those who want to take their tops off in public generally ought not to

I think the fitter may have been working for someone elses best interest but your own. When I was taught how to fit in a bra making course, there is no way a wire could poke if the bra is correct. The secret is in the band not the straps. The other thing is that most women are wearing their bands too large and their cups too small.
I'm not comfortable posting my size but it is enough to say that my proportions are not within the normal stock of department store bras. I do have a lot of success with altering store bought to fit me.

Brat, you may be right. I trusted the woman who fit me as her shop was specifically geared toward custom bras, lingerie, etc. She explained just like you explained (and like I had said before, as in I understand) that another thing many women do is tighten their straps too much, the back rides up, and it pulls on the bra/band/wires = ill fit. The straps are not there for support.
I am also not proportionate, (and not posting my size either), and I have to have my clothes routinely adjusted to compensate.
I think part of the problem has been, I moved (a long time ago) from where I was fitted (and I also purchased stuff from), and I've spent the past decade in various manufacturers' bras, working my way through sizes because nothing fit.
So maybe yeah, it was "her" measurement, and how ideal I fit into her clothing line. But man, I think I've tried everything, but it never occured to me to have a bra tailored (I've had things custom made before, and tops altered, but this is new ground),...maybe that's what I need to do.
I just hate wearing the suckers,....

If the bra is fitted correctly, you can wear it all day and hardly notice it. Merrida and CF-gal should PM some critical info back and forth to figure out how to "fit" or size it yourself.
I actually wear a popular brand but was fitted to get the correct size. I would say my biggest gripe is certain styles (which I won't buy anymore) the straps WILL NOT say on top of the shoulder - they prefer the side of the shoulder - grrrr.

Lady, I was thinking along the same lines of Brat and I exchanging some PM's due to the delicate topic and our apparent shared issues.
I share your gripe big time about the straps. Even if I get the band to fit correctly, that does seem one thing I cannot stop, regardless of the material,....bra straps sliding down my shoulders. And to think, I actually know of women who do this on purpose....
Blasted straps,......grrrr right back atchya (or with ya, really!)

I just went to Target a bought two different styles of Champion sports bras. One had adjustable thin spaghetti straps. Both are the seamless design to reduce chaffing. I do cardio every day and these are both very comfortable. Cost? $16.99

I like the idea of $16.99 tops, but like Brat, I don't think I could work out with spaghetti strap anythings.....
