When I got pregnant with my oldest I was pretty heavy into
weight training. I lifted (including squats) through my sixth month of pregnancy. However, I kept the weights lighter than usual, and never did any lifting on my back (cut's off oxygen to baby I was told). My routine was basically a simple full body workout (squats, lunges, flys, bpress, dbcurl, etc) 3 days per week. I also jogged three times per week and swam three times per week. I drank healthy shakes every morning (milk, oranges, ice, wheat germ), and ate five BIG meals a day.
At seven months I thought that I should cool it on the lifting so I changed my routine to this:
Walk up the mountain every day (pretty big moutain trail, but well paved)
Swimming exercise classes three time/wk
Upper body exercises (lite dbell type stuff)
I gained 40 pounds while I was pregnant, but mostly because I ate like two full grown
football players. However, once the baby was born I was in my old string bikini within a week! And I didn't get any stretch marks or anything like that. And the birth was a piece of cake - I attribute much of my quick rebound to the way I took care of myself (though the fact that he was my first child probably had a great deal to do with it also). I'm 5'5" and the baby was 8.5 pounds. I had him TOTALLY natural - no shots or drugs. . . I guess that I was luck to be born with "baby bearing" hips. Shee-it! I can pop em out like a pez candy dispenser
With my second child I was lazy. I got fat, and pretty much haven't been back in shape since. Now that I'm back in the gym I can feel my "muscle memory" coming back, and I love it!
I think that you should probably talk to your doctor before you lift too much. Make sure you have a strong uterus and all that. . .
