Waist to hip ratio?

I am really not so sure what a good healthy waist to hip ratio is? My upper waist is 26.5....then my lower waist is 31 and then hips are 36.5.....Should my lower waist go out that much as campared to my upper?

1st of all, it's important to take the right measurements:
-Waist measurement is taken at navel while standing relaxed, not pulling in stomach.
-Hip measurement is taken over the buttocks where girth is largest.

Divide waist girth by hip girth measure to get a number.
Waist:hip ratios that exceed 0.8 in women and 0.9 in men indicate a health risk.
Less than that and it's down to personal preference, presumably!

The IDEAL waist to hip ratio that men find most attractive on women is .7 (some men like it even lower though!) The ideal waist to hip ratio that women find most attractive on men is .9. It is odd, as studies have been done to show that the body fat percentage of a woman isn't nearly as important as the overall proportions. M. Monroe is a .7, as are most of the supermodels of today.

Cool thread - good info.

I'm almost at the "ideal" ration (.73 vx .7)

But let me tell you, I'm a fat-a** !

Are you sure about those ratios? At 5'5" tall I think that a 28" waiste and 38" hips is kind of on the chubby side.

I think the point of this number is the proportion size...so 28- 38 would be perfect then
