i would definately say protein before! what time of day do you work out? in the morning, its easy to get some good carbs with a hot cereal, then take a protein supplement. when i started taking protein, i felt the difference in my workout immediately. i felt stronger and better doing weights!
hope to help, clare

Ya, on Lady C's advice I'm eating some carbs and protein about 1 1/2 hours before lifting and you know what, it has already made a difference. Oh wow, on Monday nights workout we did 31 intense sets, it was a FANTASTIC workout and I did pretty good on my bb shoulder presses, felt good about it. For the first time I tried some weighted dips (usually only use my own bodyweight) and did well. So ya, I think the eating made a difference in my performance....( still sore, so that's good too)

Thanks for the advise. I have been doing my lifting after luch. But I decided that on Friday I will workout after breakfast time. My schedule will work better that way. I had slacked off on my fitness for a few months but am back in the swing of things now. About a month ago I started to keep records of what I eat and when, and I lost 5-7lbs! I've been eating 5 meals a day. This week I started my lifting routine and I feel great! I love to feel good and strong (and seeing some muscles on me), and my self image is getting alot better!
Another Question, I want to buy protein to make shakes. What do you recomend? And how often do you usually make a shake? Does it replace a meal? Or would I just drink it after workout? Thanks for all the info.

I eat my shake post-workout. I usually don't eat one any other time.

Ya, Really makes a difference when you keep track of what you're eating huh. Until I leaned about Fitday (on this website I should add! : ) I had no idea that I was consuming about 500 extra and useless calories a day in my coffee...you know those yummy creamers!!!! Well, I eliminated that! It really helps to see it all laid out, huh. Congratulations on the weight loss, feels so good, huh!

Yoga, I use the Designer Whey Protein because it tastes pretty good, has a good amount of protein and low cals. I like strawberry the best...hehehe

You might try using heavier weights and doing fewer sets. I know that there is no way in hell that I can do 31 sets of weighted exercises ... if I'm doing them right, that is. Generally, after 10-12 I'm spent!

Ya, probably should have, but it was just two of us & no spotter for really heavy type stuff. You're right, but still learning a lot about form and just about everything really. I'm really new at all this (only since Summer '03) and still learning, so be patient with me! Thx Cursor

I spot my wife (Lady C) only once in a long while and she follows just about the same routine that I do. You might consider pushing it some (intensity) as the weeks roll on. Oh ... we're ALL still learning.

Did good last workout, really pushed it hard, but felt safe with spotter(s) on both sides of me so I squatted 185 17 times. Ya, that was it for me...I was definitely tired out, that was my 4th set of squats!

Benman, I am going to parallel, like even to where my knees bend. I get kindof scared when doing squats. Whenever I first started lifting weights I tried to squat that amount and my back just sort of collapsed under it (thank God my brother was pretty much wrapped around me and pretty much lifted me and the bar up to the rack!!!)
But now I did it 17 times so I am happy that I gained some strength!!! I am getting so addicted to this.
How do you do the squats? You must do them in a different way since I am sure you could do more than me!
