Who turned you on to weightlifting? Male or Female?
A lot of women are afraid to get bulky from lifting weights, it's true, but I also think a lot of women just never really considered weightlifting an option for them...
It's considered more of a man's sport I think, and most advertising for women is all about cardio, unless you consider Curves or The Firm videos *weightlifting*
How many of you women starting weightlifting with a man, someone who kinda nudged you into it and then guided you along? (Probably most!)

It was another woman. Another girl, actually because at that time, I was still young and restless . I wanted to do some sport (didn't do anything before) and she took me to the gym. It didn't last long beause, you know, students, parties, beer and so on but it was just enough to catch the weightlifting virus. A few years later (now ), I started on my own. There are a few trainers at the gym but I get my "knowledge" mostly from the internet. That is to say, u guys!

I actually had no choice but to start lifting, because I was attending police college and I had to pass certain physical tests and standards. But it was mainly men that I learned from...whether it was getting advice or watching. I had a personal trainer for a short period of time that was male....he even told me that it was great to see a female that was so intent on gaining strength.
SO needless to say it was really men that helped me out....there just aren't as many females out there who are knowledgeable in the weight department. It's unfortunate.

I know you were specifically asking who got the women started lifting weights, but what the heck- I'm a guy who was introduced to the weight room by a woman . She was not afraid of building muscle and actually had stronger legs than most of the guys I know.
Since then I've returned the favour and helped 3 women get started on the path to more muscle, so I've helped restore the status quo .

I started lifting weights in Grade 11 so I was about 14 or 15 and was in an all girls gym class. Our teacher was into running and lifting weights. 2 fridays a month we played sports the rest of the time it was running MWF and weights on TT.

I had an eating disorder when I was 18...(I'm 26 now) When I was recovered, my metabolism was all messed up, I was never heavy, maybe about 10lbs overweight or so. From going through so many fluctuations in weight, my skin became very flabby, too flabby for my age! So I started doing cardio, thinking that it would make me "tighter" it didn't! I used to see a couple of girls at the gym with awsome bodies, I'd actually get depressed looking at them! So, my mom's boyfriend was a competitive body builder for 32 years, and he started coming to the gym with me, I would never dare touch a weight, in fear that I'd look like "she-man" but I'm always willing to try new things so he trained me for 3 months, as soon as I saw some results, I dove into it....Now I can't stop, I love it, I feel better and look better!

How did I get into lifting weights.... I fortunately stumbled onto my personal trainer "Rhonda White" that was Ms. USA in the 80's. She also judged body building. She worked out in Venice when Arnold was winning. Once I started lifting with her, I am now totally hooked. Any aches and pains I ever had are now gone. I feel like I'm getting younger and younger. It is hard to see the results, as my muscles don't really get that much bigger. People just tell me I have great arms or great legs or look younger than my real age. I can deal with that
