Help Help Help!!!!

Hello all!

Okay, so just a few stats about ME! I am 21, about 145lbs, 5'5'', and from the great state of Texas. I have been into sports my whole life and love working out. I eat healthy, though not as healthy as I should, I do stay away from fried foods, I try to eat lean meats, lots of veggies and fruit when its around. I also eat plenty of whole wheat and take a daily vitamin. Not trying to get sympathy from anyone but back in Feb I had a miscarriage and sense then my body has gone CRAZY! Prior to Feb, I was beginning to get into really good shape. I was working out most days of the week, and it felt SO great! Now I don't know what is going on! I have been to the Dr. many times but they just keep giving me answerers like, "well it just takes time", or "maybe you're depressed"... Umm, yes I was saddened, but I would like to get my life back on track now!!!

Here are all the dilemmas:
I work part time and go to school full time
My study hours are in the evening/night , thats the only time I can concentrate!
I am not a morning person!
I have NO energy
I WANT to start doing cardio and working out like I use to but I just don't have that "UMPH" anymore.
I am tired ALL the time.

Here is my plan:

I just scouted the gyms in this city and most open at 5:30 which is great since I only live 30 min away. Even though I am not a morning person this is the only time I have to work out. So I'm thinking I can get up at 5:00am, workout from 5:30 to 7:30, and then from 7:30 to 8:45 get ready at the gym for school/ work, which ever is that day, and then have the rest of my day to what ever else I need to do.

What I need to know:

-A good workout plan to tone up, build lean muscle, and lose weight
-A good diet plan, as far as what I need to eat/ drink prior to working out in the mornings...
-Is there anything I can take to boost my energy and endurance since I am not a morning person at all, and I have neither at this moment anyhow!
-What do you know about clem?

Anyhow, I have made up my mind to get back to where I was and keep improving, all I need is that boost and extra "want to" like I use to have. Your opinions and help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much!

Hello Jinny and welcome to DF!!

first of all I would like to express my sympathies for your loss. I can't imagine it was easy to over come but you seem like you are doing good and that's great!

second of all I do see a problem with you emphasizing that you are not a morning person but then are willing to get up at 5:00 in the morning just to go to the gym???
I am not a morning person either and if I were you, as soon as that alarm went off I would rol back over.

Also, why do you need to work out for 2 hours? seems awful long to me. I am 23 and I spend no more than an hour at the gym. You could cut that in half and save an extra hour of sleep time!

As for the nutrition plans and workout plans, I will leave that to others on here as they are much more direct and know more than I...

anyways those are just my $0.02 nothing much I supposed but maybe a little insight into the fact that you can have gains from not spendind your whole life at the gym~

Good luck!!!

Hello Jinny and welcome to Discuss Fitness. I had to step over to the lady land part of this website and give you a warm welcome.

I remember seeing you as a new member recently, but your user name indicates you just joined today. Did you have a different user name and perhaps forgot your password?

As one who believes that life begins at conception, I am so sorry to hear about your recent loss. I'm sure it is part of a bigger plan that God has for you and that, during your lifetime, you will be blessed with many fruits of motherhood.

Why don't you join us in the Online Journal and record your training effort. You'll get great support and advice from the regulars, including me. I train early in the morning most weekdays, so maybe I'll have some tips to get your early-morning effort going.

Have a great day!

Welcome to DF.

I would not worry about the specifics of the workout right now. Just get into a routine or haibit first. Once you have done this routine for 3 weeks then we can talk about a specific routine.

Stay away from the supplements for now (clem) and stick with old fashioned hard work. I would alternate days of cardio with days of weight training.

Also check out the stickies at the top of the "Diet and Nutrition" & "Beginners" forums for great advice.

And then....

okay, so I have been working out for about 4 weeks now. MW&F I have been doing weights and Tue and Thur I am doing cardio. I have also decreased my cals... eating more lean meat and veggies. I have noticed a change in tone, but NO CHANGE IN WEIGHT, 145, and sometimes higher! Anyhow, I am ready to get down to the specifics! A good workout routine would be great. I have been talking with alot of people at the gym and everyone has different ideas, some are to bulk, some are to cut, some are just crazy! Anyhow, Im in a pretty good routine but I definatly need to spice things up a bit. Any input is greatly appreciated!

THANKS!!!

My favorite is what I'm currently doing, which is 3 times a week, 2 sets each of DL, squat, t-rows (you can substitute other types of rows) bench and OHP. It's hard work, but I like it a lot.

Thanks everyone! Yeah I really need to start a workout log! I use to have one on fitday.com so maybe I can get in the habit of doing it again. Lady C, the workout you mentioned sounds great, keeping the cardio in there will be okay too I assume?

Okay, another thing. I seem to bulk up really easily. My pants are already way too small in the thigh area after 3 weeks! This has always been the case. So do I need to decrease weight and increase reps? Exhaust the muscle?

Yeah - you can do cardio on the same days (after the weights) or on alternating days. You won't decrease the muscle you will just have to be glad you have muscle genetics and buy bigger pants. Sorry, no such thing as spot reducing or selective building.

you'll also only bulk up to a certain point. I have big thighs too. But I like my legs lol. No matter how heavy I can squat they always just get to one size, and the less body fat I have the smaller they are - but the muscle is stiill there. Just means I have to work harder to get pants that fit properly, and get my waist to where I want it! I do a lot of cardio too - or I use to and am trying to get back at it!

Yeah, I'm okay with big legs, they have kind of "grown on me".. Pants are hard to shop for, but I have noticed that BKE jeans are awsome for people with bigger legs and a smaller waist!

Jinny, another option is to buy pants that fit your hips and legs and have the waist custom tailored to fit you precisely. It's very flattering.
