Workout videos

I have several but only use The Firm 5 day abs and Tae bo. I want to try Pilates video but would it be a waste of my time? Would a Pilates video be less effective or do I have to cough up the $$ to take some classes?

I highly recommend the Winsor Pilates videos. If this is the very first time you've tried pilates it would be worth the money to take a class just to make sure you learn the proper form. The Winsor Pilates actually teaches form very well but if you give it a try and have any doubts take a class so the instructor can help you make any adjustments.

Also just so you know pilates is not going to burn nearly as much fat as TaeBo since it is not cardio..it's excellent for endurance and core strength thou!

I wanted to get a TaeBo or Kickboxing video. That way if I miss a class that week there's no excuse not to go. But I don't want my video to be a crutch for NOT going...

I've been focused thus far though, so I can't imagine slipping. I like the atmosphere of the gym and the classes.

I never could really get into Pilates. Before you buy one of the videos maybe you can check one out at your local library or rent one from your local video store?

My all time favorite exercise videos are:
- Rodny Yee - Yoga
- Buns of Steel with Greg Smithy
- Cory Eversons "Get Pumped" series. She is a major corn ball, but it's a good workout if you can't get to the gym.

Pilates is soooo good. I would recommend it to anyonea If you want more of an upbeat type video like (taebo) its not like that. I started out with an easier version (not windsor) www.livingarts.com. But I do the windsor tapes now they are awesome.
I find that they really pull your stomach in, and give a lean muscular look. I did it every day for 2 weeks (when I first started) and changed nothing in cardio or diet and I lost and inch on my waist, and hips without loosing any weight. After the first 2 weeks I cut back and split up my days like this: mon wed fri weights and light cardio tues, thurs, sat- pilates and HIIT cardio. Sundays off- but I found myself not really wanting a day off! I need to get back into that mindset! lol

Do you do the 20 minute or the hour session? I do the pilates once in a while but feel that I am not getting no where with them. Of course some of the exercises, like the roll up or roll over, I cannot do.

As I'm doing the tapes I really don't feel like I'm getting anwyhere but it took off inches without me loosing a lbs. I do the 30 minute tape. I found that I was doing them too much so I had to cut back because my body got so used to it. Maybe switch tape brands?

I could relate to you about not feeling it on the pilates. I still try to do the 20 minutes video 2 - 3 X a week just in case it works.

I think I am one of those people that if I don't sweat or do some high intensity activity, I feel like it's not doing anything for me. It might be psychological for the most part. I love Taebo and feel that at times, I get more of a workout when I do it at home compared to going to some of the classes. I also like the older Taebo videos better compared to the new ones that he has now.

It also depends on the individual. I know a lot of people at work that praises Winsor Pilates but I am more neutral about it more than anything.

Try Billy Banks Bootycamp. Oh my goodness if you really wanna work up a sweat thats the video to do it. Its a total fullbody workout. I was even out of breath and tired as heck afterwards and i run 30 miles/week plus full body workout 3 times per week.

I personally like Cathe Friedrich for strength training. She kicks my butt! I have never been able to get into Pilates. I have the first Winsor Pilates set and I did it once and hated it. I think I just prefer the plain ol' strength work -- dumbbells, pushups, lunges, squats etc.

I also have the first set of Tae Bos and the Live Advanced version. It's really cool for a change and Billy is really motivating.

What is his Boot Camp like? Is it mostly cardio or does he do more strength training stuff in that one?

I REALLY want to try Power 90X -- I've heard that Tony Horton is really good and a lot of people say good things about that program.
