Your experiences w/Whey protien for women

Hey all~~~
I have been working out for sometime now Naturally with out any supplements. & I am beginning to build some good defintion in my arms, abs, & back. But, I would like to progress faster than what I am in toning & muscle building. I have beent hinking about whey protein. Have any of you ladies had experience with this supplement? Does it cause weight gain? Do you build more muscle mass in a shorter time period with it? Is it REAL muscle that will stay or just water gained muscle like creatine? I do believe it is suppose to be permenant. But I wanted to see what all of your experiences have been. Thanks

I've used whey off and on in the past few years.

First off, it *won't* make you gain unecessary weight like creatin because all it is is isolated *protein*. All it is, is an easy, isolated way to up your protein intake in a low-carb, low-fat way.

That being said, I had a bad experience when I bought a cheap GNC brand of ISO-whey - I could barely stomach the stuff, and I threw up almost every time I drank it.

Will it cause you to grow muscle+weight in a shorter period of time? Hard to say. It's a slow and difficult in general for women, so it's not as if it's a magic bullet that will make you explode in lean muscle. Taken in moderation with a healthy diet and strength training regime, it's definitely beneficial. I have found that my muscles are not as sore the next day, and I had made some good gains while on it. Just my two cents

whey protein is roughly 4cal/gram, just like regular protein. if you take too much of it, the excess will first be converted to carbs and burned as fuel (hard on the kidneys) and the rest will be converted to fat and packed away where you want it least. i use it when i can because it's easy, convenient, and more economical than steak.

work it sensibly into your diet - although to me, it sounds like you're on the right track already. if it ain't broke, don't fix. wait until progress stalls and you plateau before you go fiddling about with a working system.

I personally love it, but that's mostly because I have a horrible sweet tooth. I love ISO PRO and Whey Gourmet. I usually incorporate it into breakfast. Fruit shake with some oatmeal or a homemade muffin. Although, if you're looking to make huge gains, don't go making pina colada style shakes like I have - complete with a little rum for flavour...
