79 year Oly lifter

Here is a photo of Dan Takeuchi who competed in the masters division at the Tommy Kono Iron Dragon Weightlifting Classic a couple of weeks ago.

Dan is 79 years young, weighing about 163 lbs. He started Oly lifting when he was 58 years young and he is a cancer survivor.

On competition day he snatched 143 lbs. and clean and jerked 187 pounds and got 5 out of his 6 lifts.

His squat snatch depth was amazing. Truly a role model for those of us who wonder if the best is yet to come.

The Man was at the Kono *PIC*

When I click the link all I get are the rules, when I click the link below them...it takes me back to them.

Just reading your description sounds very impressive. Most 79 year olds that I deal with aren't even walking or talking anymore. To be lifting - wow.

Yeah the pic doesn't seem to be showing up for me either. But, like a_welch said, just reading about it is damn impressive!

wow, really makes me think how much time there CAN be for training, I've only been working on those lifts for about 4-years with no coaching, his lifts are not far off from mine (he's proiblly got better tech. than me also), so what really makes me see it, is he satrted when he was older than my father is (I'm about 30, my father had me in his mid-20's) and this guy has been training for OVER 20years now (I've been training those lifts for only 4, and total weight training for 7-8years) (not even half that time). AMAZING!!!
