of course if u do half reps on squats every time u do legs its a risk of injury. i'm saying like once in awhile u load it up and do half rep squats instead of full reps it helps get rid of sticking points. i read a study on it ill try and find it for you. All the guys that performed half rep squats every so often gained faster on full range squats then the others

But aren't the Westside guys almost exclusively training for a shirted bench? When off-the-chest strength is taken out of the equation, it's an entirely different undertaking. Training the top end by itself, where you're not getting the stored kinetic energy of the shirt's material, makes obvious sense. But is it that helpful if your sticking point is at the bottom?

well...from what i've seen most people stick in the middle of a rep if u get stuck at the bottom ur probably pushing too hard anyway. Also i have found using a lot more weight on the half squat mentally affects u. When i go back to normal weight it feels a lot lighter and it tricks my brain haha

theres lots of benifit to doing partial squats, BUT, I believe it's hard for most to find the right way to do them.

also, you can't even compare a partial on an incline leg press machine to a real partail squat (even supportting heavy weight on the shoulders freely).

I was very, very fourtunate last weekend to have a person share a 4-hour drive with us back home from a banquet dinner Dan and I attended honoring the old-time strongmen/bodybuilder/weightlifter. This guy worked at "york barbell" and worked for John Grimeck back in the day, he gave us a 4-hour nonstop ride full of training regimns, stories, and whatnot of many lifters,pro-wrestlers, and bbers. It appears that Grimeck had several philosiphies that I have, and he disscussed a workout with partial squats he witnessed by Grimeck in his 70's, no belts, no supports whatso ever, I believe the weight was 750lbs.

the problem today is that some things have been forgotten, it's been overlooked due to all the hype and hoopalla.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but if you do only a half squat with, say, 500 lbs, you don't go around telling everyone you can squat 500 lbs.

and I agree 100% liftgirl..........my reasoning for my post was because this thread was turing into a general disscussion on partial reps (squats) alone.
(which I've proved so far (to myself) that I can spend most of my time for the year improving my partial squats (my way) and smoking my ATG squat poundage from the previous year, and add tons of "useful" strength.

as far as the original thread goes, (I didn't see the vid.) but if he's only moving this weight 2" he should be stating that hes more supporting this on a leg press (not leg pressing it) and to get even more tech. if he's using an incline leg press machine, he's not even really supporting 2,000lb, the way to "really" support 2,000lb with the legs would be to do it the "old-time strong man" way, using a plank or something and vertical, in which the load would be "free" and his legs actually supporting every pound of the load.

i also agree liftgirl you should "i half squat blah blah blah". What i usually do persay is do heavy full squats and after i get spotted once or twice i start doing half reps. It feels like liquid fire by the time im done
