Any Good Links to Learning about Powerlifting Competitions?

I would like to learn about the rules and regulations of powerlifting competitions, the different classes, how things are judged, what's judged exactly, etc etc etc.

Does anyone have any links for NEWBIES to powerlifting competitions so that I can learn about them?

Your best bet is to go to fortifiediron in the powerlifting section and ask the same question. If you don't want to do that let me know and i'll pull up the information for different feds for you.

all this is coming from my experiences at high school meets. others may differ.

weight classes: 105,114,123,132,148,165,181,198,220,242,275,SHW (some have one between 275 and SHW)

prior to start you will check the squat rack and put on your opener sheet what pin setting you want. when you weigh in you will give them the opener sheet and be given a number (permanent marker on your hand)

depending on the size of the meet there will be a few setups. all of them i went to had 3. 1 platform for 105-148, 1 for 148-198, 1 for 220 and up. on your platform they will have a list of all lifters on that platform and opening weights (should be on a projector for all to see). they will start at the bottom and go up, no separation between weight classes. when your bar has been loaded you have 1 minute to be on the platform(usually plywood with a rubber mat for traction)

squat: you will be told when you are in the hole (3 out), and you can check the screen. usually 2-3 out is when you will be getting knee wraps if you use them. when it is your time, get to the platform. get under the bar (looking down, dont make eye contact with the middle judge until you are ready) get your feet placed, hands placed, bar placed on the sweet spot on your back. when you are ready you will look at the judge in front of you and his hand will lower. squat as fast or as slow as you choose. when you hit parallel you should have a KNOWLEGABLE friend yell, slap the floor, call you a panzy, whatever, to let you know its time to go back up. your feet cant move, your hands cant move. pause and the top and look at the judge, he will tell you to rack. when you get off the platform check the flags/lights to see if its a good lift. majority rules, 2 of 3 is good. if you get any flags (whether majority is good or bad) you can ask what you did wrong. then you will tell the person running the projector what weight you want next.

bench: same thing with the shirt as wraps, 3 out. when you get to the bench, get set up, hands, feet, body. get a lift off, when you are ready go down, hold iton your chest, judge will say "press" do the do, hold it he will tell you to rack. no feet, hands, butt, head movement.

DL: put on a belt and get after it. no hitching/jerking. hold at the top till the judge says lower or puts his hand down. lower the weight under control. no foot movement. conventional or sumo are allowed.

when i competed we had 1 bump per event. meaning if someone was afew points above me after squat or bench then i can bump my third weight up to something higher to keep/attain a lead. you must bump before your weight is loaded.

after all is said and done, if you tie with another guy in your weight class the lighter guy wins.

if i missed anything then fill in the blanks. any other questions ill do what i can.
