I remember 245 for some reason it took some time to break that. I also hurt my left shoulder around that time.
You will get there!!

Yup I know a few guys that did the same thing right around 240 to 250. I think it's more of us pushing to get to 250 too much. I got the same thing around 480 too.

You know what is amazing...when you start talking to someone new about your lifting habits the first thing they ask is....how much you bench? I don't think this is the overall summary as of how strong you really are....

My cousin and I have two totally different builds....I bench probably 50 lbs more than him yet are arms are very close 18" vs 17"...I'm bigger of course....anyway, in terms of arms he is stronger on bi's and I am better on tri's....overall power I would win....but bench is not the measure of overall muscle mass....it drives me nuts....I am sure there ae members of this forum that out curl me but I will destroy on bench....How did the bench press become the most popular lift???

GEaring up for a max out within the month....hope no injury occurs....

Bench is probably the most popular exercise out there. I think almost everyone who has an idea about exercise and/or weightlifting knows about the bench press.

If someone asks you how much you bench, just ask them how much they DL.

I'm guessing cause it's part of the mentioned powerlift exercises, but of those 3, it's the one that works the most sought-after area....
A lot of people don't do bench press over here though.... Either that or they're just afraid to say what their max is, having heard of people like Jaster.... I, on the other hand, can't talk enough about my bench press, as it is probably my best exercise....

I like to help out others with their bench and never discourage any one. I am always willing to talk or help. I hope that my bench numbers are more of an inspiration rather than a deterrent.

I don't doubt that you do, but the bulk of people are very easily discouraged and hearing of people benching 500 when you yourself have to start from scratch at maybe 120, is definitely more often than not a deterrent, despite all your efforts for it to be otherwise.....

This is really a matter of will though.....I was one of the puny cats starting out at maxing 120 and I'm still heavily into lifting, because I have been able to see the results of my persistence.... A lot of people tend to give up as soon as there are hurdles and therefore, the discouragement of not being able to hang with the rest will often see them quitting before they even get started.....

They give up because they realize they can't work out in a gym for 2 months and get huge or even see the slightest change. I think that's when they truly start to respect just how hard it is to get a big bench. Hell, I think 250 lb bench is above what the average person can do (not average athllete, average person). You almost have to start working out KNOWING that you won't see any major change for 3-6 months.

That would depend on your original build, no.....? I had great progress strength wise for the first six months and could definitely see my muscles getting larger and more defined, but then, I started out wit a small, skinny frame and low bf%.... I find it likely that a person who is looking to LOSE weight as well as get stronger and more defined would take longer to see results in all areas, and thus would be more prone to getting discouraged.....

I believe that to be somewhat true Khaine. I am convinced that some people were just meant to lift. Speaking about big benches, those people will progress more quickly. Genetics play a huge role in lifting. I see skinny dudes at the gym who look like they have no place lifting more than 95lbs. yet, they pound out 12 reps of 225 with good form. Alot of these guys have long arms and alot of torque built into their frame. I personally am a short, stumpy dude with short limbs and that takes away alot from my bench, squat and a few other lifts. Now, none of this translates into size because I am a big boy yet my weights are below alot of peoples'. I build muscle very easily but strength-wise I am average. I think there are many factors that create a large lift.
