Average Arms and Bench

I have looked all over the net, trying to get an idea on what the average person can bench and what an average arm size would be.... Also... what would be considered an above averge bench and how many inches would be considered big arms (Flexed)
Opinions or info would be greatly appreciated.

The average person, or the average lifter?

I'd say the average lifter can bench 220 as a max, and has somewhere around 14" arms? Hows that sound?

Yeah the average person isn't even close to that....I would say that is about right for your average lifter in terms of bench, but 14" arms seems a little small...but then again what the heck do I know....

I think 14 inches is a hair small also, perhaps 15.5 or around there. Depends on what you mean by "average"? Using myself as an example (although I don't know my 1 rep max is), I bench 205 for 6 reps and have 17" arms. I consider myself fairly average or slightly above.

I consider myself average because I am not one of those hulking beasts that barely fits through a door way....I bench 275x10 and have 18" arms...I am just a decently sized kid, no freakyness....in terms of a lifter I consider my self average, but I guess I am slightly above also....

no idea on average arm girth, but i dunno iv been a member of 3 gyms off and on for the pass 3 years and in that time i think iv seen maybe 3 or 4 people bench over 200 pounds, 90% of people seem to fit in the 110-160pound range in terms of benching at my gym anyway.

How much do u weigh big man. That is a fairly large bench. Try doing a powerlifting cycle if you bench 275 x 10 i wouldn't be surprised if u can max out on 350 + easily.

I read in some book awile back that the average male arms are like 13" but if you are talking bodybuilding folks like our selves i would say average would be like 14"- 18" thats my guess anyway

I guess it all depends on where you are in your progression. I think furball is being modest in his assessment of 275 for 10 as average. lol

I agree with shintaaro, 90% of the people at my gym don't get past the 155 mark and alot of them are only benching 95. But of course that goes back to how far someone is along in thier lifting progression.

Just 5'9" 220lbs right now (been up to 225)...I must be a member of some crazy gyms then...because in terms of stature I am not that freakishly big...I am pretty strong, but I still feel like an slightly above average lifter...

I haven't maxed in years, fear of injury....what would a powerlifting cycle entail...

Serious.....? I'd believe the max lift would be much higher....

I'm 5'8", 160, naturally skinny and long-limbed and have been lifting for about a year.... And I'm maxing 240 by now... Without really having focused my training towards maxing, but more in the range of 2x15 & 2x10 sets back to back....
Now, taking into consideration that I'm practically a newbie, not naturally built for it, and haven't really trained towards it, I'd presume an 'average' lifter would be able to press more than me.....

My arms are puny tho.... ahahaha a mere 13" at most..... I got mad issues wit those....

furball can officially be considered a beast..... Those reps are nuthin short of impressive....

Btw, my first post here.....

Thanks guys... The reason I aske is I am constantly comparing my arms to others. My bench is fair, but I feel like my arms are way to small... guess I will have to work on them more.

Hey guys!! Its been awhile. I havent been working out for like a year or so. my Max bench right now is around 190 lbs. My bicep is around 13 1/2 inch'. My bench use to be in the 260's (1 max rep) with 14 inch bis.

This thread is indicative of how strength does not equal size. We got people on this forum benching more than me with arms 3 inches smaller than me...wtf? lol

I had a guy come up to me while i was in Florida last week and asked what i benched. When i told him he thought i was joking. He thought i should have been able to bench double what I can bench right now (245). I'd have to agree with him LOL.

At first it made me feel good, that someone noticed my tricep definition and my broad build , then it quickly made me feel like crap when i thought about how much i was benching LOL .

Well, even the big boy lifters started somewheres. They all faced 245 at one time too im sure.
