I just want to get the tone right in this thread... no one is trying to be mean to you ihaveadog, but you are posting in the strength forum and ignoring some knowledgable members.

Take a step back and learn from others that have more experience than you...

In my opinion you shoudl eat like a horse and lift heavy as possible. For now don't get caught up in too much science. Just do all the compound lifting you can and stuff your face. If you are putting on 2lbs a week then cut your calories back. Guys like you can stuff their faces and gain nothing.

The only way to get big is to eat big. Guys like Todd that are ectomorphs will tell you that. And for ectos, if you start slacking on your diet, you are done.

Guys like myself and Dark, we are probably meso/endo, we can put mass on quick and sadly it is fat we put on alot of times. Our diet doesn't have to be perfect to grow, but it has to be perfect to lean out.

Your diet has to be perfect to grow, meaning your calorie intake has to be high every day, and less perfect to cut, meaning you slack off on your calorie intake and you are going to regress.

hey i was also wondering, you guys always talking about eating food that will put weight on you and stuff. What about lots of tuna fish? is that good to eat? Seeing as it has 20g of protein per can, i eat about 2 cans each day, That will help put muscle on too right?

Tuna is great and has a good nutrient profile, 68.3cals with 16g of Protein is a good deal - you can afford to eat a load of this. Mix it up into a shake for breakfast and you will love it!

Careful... don't confuse quantity with quality.

Eating lots of junkfood will just make you fat.

If it works right now and you are not putting on large amounts of fat(or if you're ok with it) then keep doing it. Otherwise, be careful.

Also... keep track of your calories for one day and try to get an accurate count.

It looks like you may be getting more than 2500, but not enough protein.

Here's the question, do you want to eat to support 130 lbs or do you want to eat so you can get to your goal?

I weigh 220-230 (fluctuate a lot) and I usually consume 300+ grams of protein. (I've consumed 150 grams of protein just before and after my workouts before) Keeps your metabolism high and makes sure you have enough protein to grow. Unless you are low on cash, don't cut yourself short on protein.

Start aiming for 3000+ cals a day.

Also, don't overtrain yourself. I made the mistake of when I was starting out of training 5-7 times a week and with tons of volume and got burnt out a lot and made mediocre progress. I train with less volume and frequency now and last year have put more onto my total than my first two years lifting.

Just so you believe me, do a search on my journals earlier on. I was pretty f'ing weak just 2-3 years ago.

No. But it sure helps.

1.5-2g/lb is considered standard by many. Personally, I just go for 35% of my calories from protein. Some consider that high, some low, for me it's just right. I'm still relatively small though.
