A little side note about training with feats...

I tore a 10 pack of phonebooks today as part of my workout. It took me just under 11 minutes and during that time I had an average heart rate of 170bpm and a max of 184. By the 5th book my hands were starting to cramp and by the 8th book my shoulders/upper back was pumped and burning. It was a good cardio and upper body workout. And I did it in the quest for stronger hands, with no motives of making people scared of me.

You know extremtris, training to burst a soda can is akin to powerlifting for the hands. We're talking 1RM strength, and the last I heard you were bashing that kind of training.

Thanks for sharing that Dan. There's always something to learn here at Discuss Fitness when member share their training experiences. As a HR monitor junkie, I would have never thought that type of workout would elevate the HR like that. That is definitely anaerobic training at its finest.

A ten-pack of phonebooks....thats insane Dan. A coworker of mine can do that. He does strength feats for his church at different events.

Well i must say a 10 pack of phonebooks is nice, but its easy to rip a phone book, theres a trick to it ;]. Yet you also must have strength to do it, but a 10 pack is crazy!

Yes I was, u ment it as bench and squat. Ive always wanted strong hands/forearms but i also do not want to look like popeye lol.

I train my chest back arms and legs very well, as for brute strength i want all of that in my forearms. Just something about shaking someones hand and them fearing you would make me happy lol.

When a guy shakes my hand hard who isn't much larger than me, I tend to think he's overcompensating or has a small-man complex. just a warning.

Today i asked my weightlifting coach what i could do for a good grip and he said, to grab a 45 plate in each hand and hold it with your finger tips, i did it and it surprisingly worked very well.

When you can do two 45's smooth side out, in each hand. Then you are on your way to manhood.

If you're referring to the "popping" technique, I don't use it. Nor do I break the spine. No tricks here, just strait hand strength. I don't cheat the feats.

When i look at this topic i think... why put so much effort into forearm's when they arn't such a vital muscle other then using it for.......haha

Anyways just do your normal lift's they'll build from deadlift etc

As of Dan C, I don't think he wanted to crush a coke can in a hand when he first started doing gym but that came to him in time.

Do you mean you want all of the strength you can get out of your forearms?
