Im trying to get really strong triceps (for that punching power! :]) but im not sure how close to hold it, because if its too close it hurts your wrist, too far it works your chest, jw how close do any of you hold it (for the ones that do close grip)

If you wanna hit harder, get a boxing coach and practice throwing punches. The punching power you would gain from weight training is minute compared to the power you'd gain from proper technique and instruction.
I usually go shoulder-width when close grip pressing.
I agree with Mav on getting boxing coach for punch power.
When i was a black belt 2nd Dan i used no weights but my snap punch would floor any man.
If close grip bench hurts the wrist try using an E-Z bar it will place hands so wrists dont ache
Keeping your elbows tucked, let your forearms brush against your sides when you press and lower the bar to your upper abs... That's about proper width...
It won't do much for punching power tho... A strike is a full body motion, not a horizontal press...
