Deadlifts

Ok so what would be the correct way to do deadlifts to add muscle mass on the upper body

Stiff-Legged (With straight bar)

The Normal Deadlift (With Straightbar)

Or the Triangle or Rectangle bar

Just pick one. They will all help. Conventional is more back than legs and stiff legged hits the hams a little more. But all are a full body lift.

If done correctly no version of the dead lift is bad for your back. The key to that life as well for any other is proper form and mind the negitives. That is key doesn't matter if you are power lifting or body building controlling. the weight on the down side of the lift is very important.

I would say (from personal experience) that stiff legs are the most likely to cause injury when performed incorrectly though. Long time ago I was laid up for a few days cause my ego was ignoring my ever-rounding back on a set of SLDL's. There was a subtle pop and a lot of pain.

Conventional deads almost always make my back & traps sore.

SLDL's will work your lower back and hams more. Trap bar deads (triangle bar) simulate more of a squatting motion and will target quads more than the other 2.

Please re-read the first sentence of your last post and then decide whether the second was necessary.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but aren't SLDL's (done properly) meant to target the hamstrings? At least, that's where I feel it. In my opinion if you are 'attempting' to perform SLDL's and you have trap/upper back soreness, then you are not performing the SLDL correctly.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken. You should be pulling with your hamstrings, not your back. The back is a secondary muscle in this exercise, which really should not hit those upper areas THAT hard, especially if say you're performing SLDL's with 300 but your convential dead is 500.

lol......if your shoulders and traps are getting sore on SLDL's then you are doing something incorrectly.

Why don't you post up your video and we can critique for you........
