Deads and Squats a question to ponder..

Here is a question for everyone especially you power lifter types. Should these lifts be close to each in the amount of weight you are able to lift? Is there a relationship between deads and squats and the amount you can lift with correct form? I was just wondering.... Plus I thought this question might spark some good conversation or debate...

Good question.

Not big on competitive powerlifting myself. I think the smallest guy who can spread his legs the farthest will probably win.

The same major muscles go into play for deads and squats. Both movements are primarily hip extension. An experienced powerlifter type will probably be able to give a better view on which movement a person would have advantage when it comes to leverage against the weight.

If we're talking about a healthy person with no limiting injuries, then I think for most people, they will likely be able to deadlift more than they squat. This assumes that they train both lifts.

There are definitely some differences between the lifts, but also quite a bit of correlation. Leg, back, hamstring, and hip strength are all big players for both.

There can be vast differences between the squat weight and deadlift weight depending where your weakpoints are and how you are built. I can deadlift 150+lbs more than I can squat, but i'm also built to deadlift and not exactly built for the best squat leverages (I'm tall and I have long arms, made to deadlift). There are short people whose numbers are very similar, since they;'re built to squat and probably have shorter arms making them lowsy deadlifters. It's very very very rare to find someone strong at all 3 powerlifts.

In my opinion, nothing comes close to the squat, deadlifts are ok and havnt really done much for me. Deadlifting is much easier and less painful than squatting, theres nothing like feeling like your about to throw up after a heavy set of squats. Squats are a far better mass builder then deads, IMO.

A high rep set of deadlifts doesn't make you want to throw up? WTF? I wouldn't say they're 'much easier' either.

No, squats are much more of a uncomfortable exercise than deads.

I think that'd depend on who you asked...

Like I said, thats my opinion. Deads are more for your back, yet you do use legs, squats target your quads hams and ass much more then a deadlift, therefore making it more uncomfortable but then again thats me.

Both are pretty taxing to me. They are the hardest lifts I do and I do them back to back. Usually I do squats and then I do deads.

It's the same the other way around, too.

I have done Deads first and it makes no difference to me. The two back to back kick my @55! Lets not forget everything effect everyone differently. To me they are both equally taxing.
