The Empire State Games are being held at the university I work for this year, so I'll be heading off to watch the Oly lifters this afternoon once I leave work. Looking forward to watching these guys hoist some impressive poundages! A few years back there was one guy in his 40's (or maybe his 50's) who used to do the snatch with the old style "split" rather than a squat. What a trip to watch, so I'll be looking to see if he is back this year or not. The even have a female classes too! Glad that my wife enjoys going, at least I'll have someone to hang with. Too bad there isn't more interest in the sport.

Watching those guys make the lifts is incredible! Speed, timing, strength.....they have the whole package. Got me looking forward to watching the Olympics this summer, as well as stoked for my workouts. Too bad there aren't any gyms around here where one could learn the lifts.
Even my wife had a good time, hehehe.

Awesome! Got any pics/videos or anything of the sort for us? It sounds like a good competition (split styles ARE cool), who won? Anyways, I love Olympic competitions too, I went to the Arnold this year, it's fun to watch.
Agreed about the olympic training facilities (I guess you are talking platforms and bumpers). There just aren't enough. That's one of the reasons I'm not doing so much olympic lifting stuff.
I got to see the Mens featherwieght and lightweight, as well as the mens lightheavyweight/midheavyweight/heavyweight divisions.
There was guy who was from Uzbakistan who was a guest lifter in the 69kg class. The 69 & 77 classes competed together and this kid outlifted everyone in both classes. Guess next year he will be eligible for the games. Should have written down his lifts, but I'm pretty sure he did a 110kg snatch and a 130kg c&j. Could have even been more. Sorry, I suffer from CRS (can't remember ****).
