farmer's walk - hook grip?

Those of you who do strongman stuff, I am hoping you can clear up a question about farmer's walks for me - basically, I'm wondering if I should use a hook grip. I guess it comes down to the point of the exercise. Are you just trying to lift as heavy a weight as you can and get it to the finish line in any way possible? Is it meant to be a full body conditioning exercise, and as such maximum weight is desirable? Or is it specifically supposed to work your grip? And if it's specifically meant for grip, is the hook grip a good idea or no? I used a hook grip the last few times I did it, and it works great (other than making my thumbs hurt), but I wonder if I would get more out of it without the hook.

the only thing I use a hookgrip for is cleans/snatches/deads cause you get a better efficent pull on the exercise with a hookgrip.

farmers=grip/full body all round I'd say.

especially if your using real implements for farmers as these do not "roll" if I where to use dumbells/barbell I'd still like to test the grip in it as well, squezzing extra hard hits all the back muscles/traps/neck everything from head to toe.

it's your call really!!!
