Sure....leg press is much easier than squats. Leg Press has a lot to do with dealing with leverage.
Whenever it comes to increasing strength output a person will need to increase power. It is always about increasing your ability to use power.
I would add power specific movements into your regiment.

Here's a "smoke and mirror" trick: Before leg pressing jump down from a decently elevated surface a few times, then jump up as high as possible pulling your knees to your chest a few times. When you hit the leg press the weight will seem easier and you will lift more.

What is your leg press at right now? that is quite an important peice of info in regards determining if you can get it up to 700...

squats will help you with your leg pres.

The bottom line is all leg press machines are different : whereas a free squat is a free squat the world over. So i hope you and your buddy are using the same leg press machine to compare your numbers.

good luck!

It's plausible. Considering that leg press is, as said before, all leverage. It's a machine, therefor your not ACTUALLY lifting 700 pounds.

Do lots of squats, deads, and plyometrics and so forth. Build up that leg power. But also, don't forget about the principle of specifity. If you want to leg press alot of weight, then you must do leg press...practice practice practice, and you'll stronger.

200 pounds is a big jump, but I know for a fact it's been done before, since your not working with free weights here.

If you focus on squats and deadlifts through July there's no doubt in my mind you'll be able to leg press 700 lbs, especially just for one rep. That's 4 whole months to dedicate to strength gains. I wouldn't even worry about working the leg press at all, except for either high rep sets at the end of a leg workout day, or the very last 3-4 weeks so you refamiliarize yourself with the motions and are ready to go.

I'm talking out of my backside here because I haven't done a leg press since high school.

But it does seem that if squatting and deadlifting are harder, work more muscles, and are "core" lifts of most programs - they should improve your leg press even more than just leg pressing would.
