Great old school Oly lifters video clips
If you've got some time on your hands, check out this site:
Super Heavyweight Legends, 1956-2000 - Clip-O-Rama @LiftUp
Great video clips of old school Oly lifters. Davis, Anderson, Kono, Hepburn, Schemansky and Bednarsky to name a few, plus lots more.
Enjoy!

great link pierini! the clips aren't very easy to see but I guess the video equipment back then wasn't what it is today.
I've only watched a few so far, the first one (davis) looked like he had a hard time! scary stuff

Hi minime,
According to my Dad, an old school guy and former bud of Olympian Tommy Kono, John Davis was the first man to C&J 400 lbs.
So it's amazing that during the 2004 Olympics, a woman from China C&J'd 400 lbs. and some change. I saw it on TV. So did my Dad in absolute amazement.

Hi minime,
I did a quick search on youtube and couldn't find it, but I definitely saw it when watching the 2004 Olympics with my Dad.
But here is a a great clip of a woman Olympic weightlifter. I remember watching her on TV too.

Shorter limbs in proportion to torso makes for better Olympic lifter but not basketball player.

it's mostly cause in these countries the athletes are selected by the government, bunked like military given a bar and shoes and train everyday at a young age.
those americans from the old days had little coaching and trained in their basements.

also John Davis was the last man to clean and jerk the "apollon railroad wheels" before the drug infest started, the other two men to lift the wheels were much larger than Davis (davis 220ish??) he could not grip the wheels so he used a mixed grip and flipped his under hand over the bar in mid-air to catch it, then jerked it.
in my book for someone who trained on his own and on his own time, and never used the "wheels" before that is one of the strongest things accomplished ever.
