Grip Workout

Been meaning to post this for a couple weeks now. Below is bits and pieces of a grip workout I did a few weeks ago after some clean & jerks and overhead work. Maverick's new found love for grip training has sparked my own interest once again (enthusiasm truly is contagious). I haven't competed in a grip competition since the summer of 2005 and being that grip is no longer one of my "weak links" I haven't really trained grip for nearly two years (besides wrist extensions and the occasional card or phonebook tear). However, I've been at it again and it doesn't seem that I've lost any strength. I'm looking forward to what kind of PR's a couple months training time will bring. I feel a two 45's pinch is in the near future!

Holy crap, consider the spark I gave you returned as a fireball! That pinch stuff was sick man, you were throwing those 35's around like they were toys, they may as well be welded to the ground for me. Everything on that vid gives me something to aspire to, particularly since my pinch seems to be progressing slower than my other aspects of grip. Truly awesome stuff. I don't tihnk you can have a reall appreciation for this stuff until you try ti yourself.

Were those 45 pound oly plates at the end you were flipping?!

Plate pinching is fun stuff. And considering the thumb is the other "half" of your grip, it pays to have a strong pinch. Don't be surprised if bringing the thumb up results in an overall increase in hand strength.

I'm not sure if it was identified on the video like I know the 35's and 10's were, but the 'release and catch' and double clean & press was done with 25's. I'm thinking I might try that again tomorrow after the contest with 35's though

And yes, they were 20kg (44lb) bumpers I was flipping at the end. The last attempt I did with my right hand I caught wrong and jammed the thumb pretty good, notice how I kinda grumble and curse as I walk away and all the attempts after were done with my left hand.

Surprised you didn't smash your toes as well as your thumb.

I always enjoy your videos.
